ok, i am currently running ME, buth ave XP on cd. After reading som eof these, I assume that you can install XP over ME? Does it keep my files and settings, or will they be gone?

I had some fun on a friends Comp this morning and he has XP.. I also went to MS's site, and my hardware doesnt fall into their categories.. does that mean it wont work, or is that a "preferred" list?

By looking at your systems in your sig they should handle WinXP just fine. As long as they have at least 128MB of RAM.

Yes you can upgrade ME to XP and it will keep most of your settings and keep your programs and files, although, as you know, system stability after an upgrade cannot be garunteed.

The best way is to save all data, format the HD and do a clean install...

I would suggest looking around to see if there are available drivers for your hardware. tip: if it is win2k drivers that are available, they will usually work with xp.

XP IMHO is a lot better than windows 98se or Me.

I don't know what hardware you have that didn't fall into MSFT's preffered catagory, but I can tell you that XP has more drivers than any other previous OS, and almost everything works with it. It had a driver for my HP 1000C Deskjet that HP didn't even offer on their site! And the XP driver for my scanner is better than the one on the HP site...I rolled back to it after a few hours of use...
