Avira. :p

Of those two, MSE though.

Norton shouldn't even be a consideration. It's more invasive than half the crap it's supposed to protect against.

MSE is decent, though. In my limited experience with it, it seems to be equally as good as Avira.

MSE doesnt have a firewall, so is windows firewall good enough?

If nothing else, it is better than Norton. Norton is a plague in need of eradication... If you really want a firewall application, get Comodo. ZoneAlarm isn't as bad as Norton, but they're trying hard to get there.

Windows firewall is just as good as any for inbound traffic, but it doesn't check outbound traffic.

I used to use ZoneAlarm for an outbound firewall, but recently I haven't been pleased with their business practices. Comodo as pettyg mentioned is another one people often suggest.

I was doing research on the same thing last night. It seems generally people picked MSE in a 'vs' type setting from what I've googled.

MSE + COMODO Firewall (if you need a firewall) + Malwarebytes = your set

I don't know if it'd be wise to rely solely on Malwarebytes anymore, for spyware scanning... I've found quite a few times lately that SuperAntiSpyware picks up on some pretty serious nasties that Malwarebytes misses completely.

adaware
malwarebytes
superantispyware

Avira + Spybot + Malwarbytes = I have never been infected. ;)
