In my opinion you should go along with NEC 19". Maybe Viewsonic is a bit higher quality - I dont know - but 19" is 19" :)
Temporarily I had to change back from 19" to 17" and it wasn't a great experience :)

Go for the NEC
No way the viewsonic's have better quality !!!!
Still pleased with the performance of my NEC-Multisync M500
It's a 15'' and i own it from Jan 1999 dot 0.24 !!!
It still has much better image quality from many 17'' recent models

Get the 19" monitor but we all know that ViewSonic has been renowened for its excelence in Monitor quality!
I have seen the P95F 19" Viewsonic in action and ohhman, it is sweet!! How bout 1920x1080x32 with 85Hz or 1600x1200x32 with 88Hz! Its got a $789.99CAN price thou :(
Simply amazing!
-------------------------------------------------------
But if you want my opinion on Price/Quality ratio, I'D DEFINATELY go for the ViewSonic 19" G90F flatscreen. Its going for $499CAN right now and the picture quality is surpurb.
It runs flawlessly @ 1152x864x32 with 120Hz. Yes a nice 120Hz refreshrate to sooth those eyes.

And to be quite frank there are only a handful of good CRT's on the market, so people should do some research and check back here and tell me all the monitors that have DVI inputs. Analog inputs suck big time and kill CRT performance in many ways.

Ritterri&Bubbles,
So in your opinion what do you recommend for a 19' monitor then , one with a dvi connection , I guess to utilize my Radeon 7500 for the best quality?
Have not seen you in the forum for a while, and you know what you are talking about so hit me with a recommendation friend!

Viewsonic was supposed to release a PF79 but it never materialized, I know of a few 21" and 1 17" but am looking right now to see if there is actually a 19" floating around.

So is there a 19" monitor by Viewsonic that is currently available. If not what other reputable make can you suggest in 19" utilizing dvi connection with a good pitch and refresh rate. I do not have oodles of cash would like to sell my Optiquest Q71 for whatever I can get and put that towards a good crt 19."
I have been very happy with my Optiquest Q71 never a prob in almost 3 years. Does the Nec that I questioned about have support dvi? Ahh I see it does not offer dvi support, so I will axe that choice.

I personally would snag a PF77 for $320 at computer4sure. It has a 16" viewable area, it will blow you away. It is worth losing an inch for its picture quality, all folks who got one on my recommendation were astonished at its picture.

I can appreciate the suggestion but I want to go bigger than just 17". I just installed a TV tuner/capture card and the pc will be my second "TV" in my apartment , the other my 40" Tosh widescreen HDTV:D , so I am looking for a good priced CRT monitor in 19" flavour with DVI.
Help me out with recommendations. Cause I will not spend the extra $$ to go from my 17" Optiquest that I am happy with to the Viewsonic 17" CRT even though it has better pic, I want bigger.

Maybe its just the model I have, but I am using a NEC AccuSync 70 (17") and I think it has terrible image quality.
I am not sure what type of screen technology they are using but the Shadow Mask used in my Sony Trinitron CPD 200es, which I bought about 3 years ago, is much better then this one.
I have to admit that I have not looked at any other NEC's, so it is very likely that it may just be the model I have.

I want a CRT flat screen 19" monitor that supports DVI to take adavantage of my 7500 Radeon. This monitor will also play second TV in my apt.

i can make a reccomendation based on my own monitor I got in best buy for $300 back then. its now like $150. its a proview or Mag 19" its almost flat and very sharp.
Here's a story, not a recommendation. I just bought a 19" KDS last Sunday. Hopefully the replacement will be here by Tuesday next week and I can actually get down to using what I paid for.

allow me to add to his story: I know a bunch of friends that have problems with the 19" KDS monitor. avoid them!!!!!! KDS however did OK on the 15" and 17" as my 15" never had any problems even till the day I upgraded to my 19"

Ok, Im back(after being banned for 3 days for being my abusive self to folks who have to lie through their teeth about something stupid!).
There was supposed to be a PF79 with DVI input but it never materialized. So, if you want DVI, you can get a beautiful 17" PF77 with DVI or you can get a 21" NEC FP1375x with DVI input for about $1000. The choice is a bit limited still. I say get 2 PF77 for cheap and have an ultra cool dual display setup with one of the new Ti GF4's or Beta 8500 cards, it should be pretty sweet!

I already own a pair of the 1375x from NEC, they are SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!
.24 unipitch grille
DVI input/dual analog inputs
USB hub even
20" Viewable
Killer reviews from Everybody
Perfect flat screen
If your looking for an F520(or is it G520? THe more expensive Sony monitor of the 2) killer than this is it for almost half the price. If you want a great 2nd choice, with no DVI inputs(which will save you about $100-$150) then get the Viewsonic P225F as it uses a similiar Diamondtron monitor from NEC/Mits.
Its worth every penny. But still I am telling people to get a PF77 if budget is there, even though its a 17" monitor, its Viewable is 16" which is larger than norm on a rated 17" CRT. My significant other has one that I got for a present, and she loves it! The screen is larger than one thinks.

Tubes are not the only factor in CRT's. Look here (http://www.tomshardware.com/display/01q4/011128/index.html) for a bigger picture. Just take it with a grain of salt ;)

On NEC's Website it is called the "Multisync FP1375x" It has what they call Ambix, which is similiar to Viewsonics Optisync technology. Utilizing a digital and analog input.

Why is DVI so much better? Is it because you shorten the distance that the analog signal travels? The thing that would worry me about DVI is that you are forced to rely on the DAC that came in the monitor. Does that matter? Do monitor manufactures always use a high quality DAC? Maybe it's better because the monitor can use a DAC that is tweaked specifically for their monitor? Also they can adjust it to perform the best with that tube?
Just some questions that I was interested in.
Ritteri&Bubbles
02-16-02, 11:18 PM
Thats kind of a rediculous question in one sense, because if you use the analog output on the video card it goes through a long cable where there are variances in impedance and interference, something analog is susceptible to before it reaches the tube. When the signal is sent in a digital state, its hold information pure and isnt tranferred into an analog state till it his the DAC in the monitor. The monitor DAC is going to be matched up perfectly to the monitor it was designed for. And high end monitors IMO use better quality DAC's than the ones used on video cards.
what! no one has even mentioned sony for monitors!?? welp i love my sony CPD-E400..i have used it for a few years now and absolutely love it.. take a look at it here (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00004YNSK/ref=ase_mysimon-sr-buycomputers/103-7897244-3099860) and here (http://www.ita.sel.sony.com/support/displays/legacy/specs/cpde400.pdf)

Sony is a bit overrated for monitors IMO, cept for their F520, but it costs an arm and a leg. Plus this conversation is leaning towards monitors with a DVI input also, and its benefits.

Exactly, if the monitor does not have DVI input in a flatscreen then I am not interetsed , so far it looks as it is the Nec 1375X in 19" flavour when I save the cash, or something comaprabel with dvi

OOPs my slipup, I will take the 21" technically speaking. But Ritterri&Bubbles can you give me any other suggestion in 19 and 21" size that has flat screen and dvi that I may also consider that may be a bit cheaper.
There must be some other manufactures that offer 19 or 21" CRT flatscreen w dvi in the same or lower price range?? There must there must there must, Anything by Optiquest, Viewsonics lower end lineup??

Nope. DVI and cheap dont go together in the same sentence presently, Unless you want to get a Viewsonic PF77. But then u get a 17", not 19". IF you want DVI then u got about 2-3 choices, with the NEC and Viewsonic parts the only ones for under $1000 online.

NEC MultiSync FE950+ with SpectraView 19" 18 viewable says input video signal is analog I can get it local for a reasonable amount but would I be happy.
Guess I should just stay focused on the 1375X when I get the cash, maybe other stuff will come out cause price to drop

I have seen the NEC FP1375x for as low as $850 online delivered. If I were you I would grind it out and save up the money for the 1375x, it is well worth the wait. Any it will continue to amaze you everytime you fire up your computer! Half the time when I play MOHAA or RTCW I want to just stick my hand INSIDE the monitor, it looks so 3d! The PF77 does this on 3d programs almost as well on a smaller screen. Start saving! You wont regret it! I sure didnt!
