View Full Version : ATi and nVidia on the same motherboard (for development purposes)?

I'm working on a game that will use OpenGL for the renderer(for cross platform compatibility). ATi's GL drivers are far closer to the OpenGL specs than nVidia's cards. What will run on an ATi card will run on an nVidia card, but the reverse is not guaranteed to be true.

I'm an nVidia fan myself (do NOT want to get into this debate! Let it go), so I know very little about ATi's cards. I do know that I want to get a dirt cheap 5000 series (performance is not an issue), but I do not want to have to swap hardware to use it.

Is it possible to install it along side my GTX 260 and swap between them in software? I just need to make sure that my code runs on an ATi card and the GL spec sheet is the thickness of a New York City phone book, so I'd rather not trudge through that to make sure.

I cant tell you anything about code?? But I do know that it is possible to have 2 different video cards at one time in a 2 monitor set up. I actually used to run a ATI 9800 pro and a Nvidia 5200 at the same time each powering its own monitor. I never had any issues. Well not sure how much that helps but that is my 2¢
