View Full Version : Kinect Opinions
Surprised I haven't seen a thread on this yet...
Anyway does anyone here have any opinions on the Kinect yet? I saw it on display at Bestbuy and KINDA liked it as far as navigation went.
As for the games, they looked like Wii copies *shrug*

IMO, don't bother getting Kinect yet, the lineup isn't too great. wait a year and then think about it (regretting wii).
lol thx
I saw some Uncaged Fighter game or wtfever and I read "Players: 1"
A SINGLE PLAYER KINECT FIGHTING GAME?!?!?!?!
All the hacking people have done with the kinect sure makes it interesting. And that is where it stops.
Played some yesterday with a friend. Almost the same as the Wii just no controller. Short of the work out and sore the next day, not sure if it is worth the price tag.
If you like playing dance games, go for it.

dont bother with it yet, just save up for a rig or a new console to come out.
Well I already have a secksy rig.
Its been 4+ years since the 360 came out, I wonder if the new one will come out in 2011 or 2012. *shrug*

I would love to see when combined with the windows user interafce for things like gesture based resizing new tabs and whatnot although that effort is mostly driven by the hacker effort right now with no offical MS release so I think my hopes are a little futile unless ms has something secretly in the works for windows 8
I'd like to go back in time about 20 years and do a couple of things:
1.) Make sure OpenGL is seizes the market and prevent DirectX's emergence
2.) Make sure Linux seizes the market on every piece of hardware, thus preventing Microsoft and Windows entirely.
I'll admit I can't stand Linux because I'm too impatient, but lets be honest...if Linux owned the Market and Windows was the tiny 2% we'd of had gesture-based OS's with something like the Kinect back in 1999

haha yeah, and we'd all have 20 core supercomputers with GPUs like the 6800. And if linux was so big, Mac wouldnt even exist. problem is, linux is free (xcept red hat).:p

i just hope they dont name windows 8 as windows 8, beacuse when win7 came out, the name was disapointing. Vista however, sounded awesome, and was much better sounding than Longhorn.:comp:

I dont own a 360, but my buddy does.. His gf bought him kinect.. I liked it.
I dont play consoles at all, the last one I owned was a ps1, and a gameboy before that, atari before, and odessy 2 before that.
But that bowling game is pretty cool. Its not just about danceing, thats just ignorance lol.
Plus the hacks and stuff are pretty cool. Wii is lame, so is the ps3 version, out of the 3, I think ms nailed it for the most part, it works really well.

I think numbered versions makes it easy to keep track of.
That being said I think the stupid thing about windows 7 is that the version number on windows 7 is actually 6.1

Thats because win7 is actually a more refined version of Vista. Call it an expensive service pack, with cool aero effects :D:comp:

Well I'm starting on my time machine, so far I can only make it go an hour into the future if I stand inside it for 3,600 seconds. Progress is slow thus far.

My opinion on motion controls:
If I wanted a work out while I played video games, I wouldn't play video games. I would call other human beings and say "Hey, let's go outside and play football or something". Hopefully they would not have motion controllers and suggest we play football online.

if it works as well as the display model at the brand-new best buy an hour's drive away (much closer than the previous 3 hour drive), then it will be an abject failure.
Unless there is some 'tuning' option to make it more responsive that the goon-squad at best buy messed up, it was the absolute worst, most sluggish, and nearly inoperable control scheme i've ever used.

Only thing I have used that was worse was me yelling at people on how to put up a sign. That was really sluggish and had an incredible delay after inputting commands. Don't get me started on what it takes when you have to restart a level.

Same here.
My main problem with them, all of them, is that nothing about your motion is taken into account, there is no skill involved.
Worse, when you actually do have some skill it tends to make you lose to someone who has only played the game.
Drives me absolutely nuts.

They have announced that forza 4 will have support for the kinect. lI am not sure how I feel about that as I think I would be a TERRIBLE driver without any sort of fixed thing as a reference such as a controller or racing wheel.
LOL what are you going to do, sit in a chair and pretend you are racing with your hands? Push down an imaginary gas and brake peddle? Good luck getting the clutch and e-brake to work : P

haha, it would suck even more if you come from a country where the cars have the driver seat on the other side of the car, left hand drive/right hand drive.
