Would a cracked core cause instability? Even at stock speeds? My friend flashed his bios, but removed the disk before it was done, and lost everything...he took the computer back to where he got it, and they replaced the motherboard, and when he got it back, it was really unstable at stock speeds. Recently, he jammed the mobo with a screw driver and broke some of the traces, I picked him up a new mobo and chip, and when I was replacing it, I noticed the old core was chipped on one end...

I wouldn't use the cracked core...who knows what you may have damaged when it cracked or the consiquences of the heat getting out that fast...I wouldn't do it

It should be at least fine. Lots of people here have cracked cores and they have no problems.

What would be causing it to be unstable at the stock speed? (Stock: 750)
from what i hear it will work OK if it still is unstable with the new cpu look into ur temps,
P.S i think i know what ur gif says
klowd9x will rule the world cause the chees said so!
OOOK whatever that means...
Probably a main component.
Heat, bad ram stick, PSU, mobo etc. You have to narrow it down

When i first saw this thread i was thought you meant like down the middle i was just like cool maybe he can post pics (I actually saw a core cracked down the middle once it was cool:)) Anyway now that i see you just meant the corner then it should work fine(doesn't always but almost all the time does). I got a tbird that was had a decent sized chip(upper right corner). He thought he had killed it but works fine. Didn't oc it because i gave it back to him though. One thing that comes from chipped cores though is higher heat. Most of the time you'll see an increase of a few degrees. Check your temps and make sure they aren't too high(might cause instability). Also with the now chipped corner you might want to try reapplying your thermal grease.
