my comp wont reboot. i just unlocked the chip, but i dont think that has anything to do with this. if i change something in the bios or I reboot from windows, it shuts off and just sits there w/ all the fans on and everything. this is very odd. any help appreciated

Saw a post about this kind of thing last week- and had the experience (for the 2nd or 3rd time) myself Saturday!
My story: had to rebuild 2 pcs to trade cases; the old one (being sold) was fine but the Athlon 1gig would NOT boot: fans, power, etc. Thought I might have fried the chip so I took the hsf off- chipping a corner in the process!
Tossed it in another pc and it worked fine! Put the 900 in that mobo (cheap aopen) and......no boot!?!?!?! I tried ALL the tricks for 5 hours and NOTHING!
So, I went to bed.
Got up Sunday, did some stuff and then booted the computer.....right into windows! Not a problem since and even got a slightly higher oc out of it! And I have absolutely no idea what happened or why its working now.
The basic stuff to try: check the unlock VERY carefully/ redo if possible. Reseat ram and video. remove ALL components and replace just cpu/hsf, video and ram. Try components in another pc if you can.
Wait about 12 hours and try again; hey, sometimes it works!

I would try this first! Sounds like you also might have two bridges that have made contact following the unlock. Carefully wipe off whatever you used to connect the bridges and see if your PC will boot at normal speed.
If that works then try unlocking again. I'm at two unsuccessful attempts so far. Gonna try again this weekend. I cant find any conductive paint and window defogger doesn't seem to want to stick to well to the organic cpu casing.

I have the same problem. In my case i know its a conflict between my NIC (netgear FA311) and my mobo. I just push reset whenever i restart. I dont know what could be causing the problem for you though.
When unlocked did you clock higher? Check your 5v rail, mine sometimes does that if I clock too high because the 5v rail on full load is like 4.84 on mine :(

I have a lot of experience with the "Wait 12 hours" policy and I support it all the way. Computers are stubborn sometimes...and usually, it just takes a fresh set of eyes to fix the problem. Too bad mine aren't fresh today.
Best of Luck!

That seems to be a pretty common feeling when dealing with computers!

well, the net is fine now, i checked and rechecked everything. i guess ill redo the bridges. the reset button doesn't reset the puter either. i have to hold in the power button. i want to just say screw it, this trouble's not worth the few Mhz, but i cant stand running a 1.4ghz proc at 1.56 when i know it can do 1.7 no problem.
and yodums, my 5v rail never goes below 5.1v. Antes psu's are great:)
thanks for all the help, if redoing the bridges doesn't work, ill be back

Whenever tweaking, tuning, or working on just about anything in general.....
If something goes amiss 99.9% of the time it's the last thing you did that caused it ;)
