well i just put a new system together and hadnt even did ANYTHING to try and overcloock it at all. ran for few hrs while i loaded the os, drivers, etc,,.. anyways seems the damn goliath heat sink fan from ocz failed and my damn athlon XP 2000 is toast :(

one question, i never had this happen before so like am i just screwed or since i got the cpu and fan and mostly all other parts from theoverclockerzstore.com do ya think they will replace the cpu and fan? im not sure but i THINK (crossing fingers) that's the only thing that was fried....

anyways any input or advice is GREATLY appreciated..

TIA

Did you plug your H/S fan into the motherboard fan header?

i plugged the h/s fan into the correct place yes, is that what ya was asking?
as i said it ran for few hrs while i ran fdisk, partitioned, installed os, did drivers etc. i was starting to install my dsl connection then bam it locked up. i reboted and like it wouldnt give me a screen. i immediately assumed it was the video card so i put a diff video card in and it still did nothing, that is also when i noticed the h/s fan wasnt running :( i kept the case off the whole time to keep an eye on things, but i was rearranging my desk etc. so i put the panel back on right before it locked up as luck would have it, or i might have realized the fan had stopped in time to save it but i doubt it :(

1st off... Sorry to hear that, its a sad day for overclockers and hardware gurus alike, you and your processor are in my prayers, lets just hope nothing else was damaged aswell.

now for a little story.. i had a bunch of Northwood Pentium4s ....i sold most of them, actully all of them now, but 1 of them i had a pin was ripped off and i was ****ed no post at all (of course) so i walked acrossed the street to my neighbor's w/ the power tools and now i've got a sooopercool 300.00 Keychain, and i definitly would say, at the least make it a keychain, if not get it framed and mount it on the wall w/ date of arrival and dare of death, would look extremely cool... is this nuts? cuz i'm serious, and this is the least i would do for my precious hardware! :)

yea if i cant get it replaced then i'll deff have to make me a key-chain, damn expensive keychain it will be too:rolleyes:
if i have to buy another out of pocket do you guys got any tips on where i can just buy an ALREADY un-locked pre-tested athlon xp at? i wont dare have the balls (nor wallet) to screw around w/one after this...

hmm, i was thinking the exact same thing when i jump over to amd in a few months (when my budget allows) those KR7A-133R boards are just to gorgeous not to get my hands on... i'm was thinking maybe buying like a 1500+ used and unlocked or buying a new 1500+ (at least its cheap!) and trying one of those 12.00 xp unlocking kits.. otherwise like you... 2000+ unlocking (for my 1st time) is a little to rich for my blood to take the chance... good luck finding aplace if you do, let me know! :D

I think what Trance Bear had in mind with his question was, that your Fan might have pulled too much power from your Mobo Fan Header and might have burned it out. Delta Black Label-class Fans should always be attached with a Molex 4 Pin connector and not to a Mobo header.

ah now i see, yea it was in the mobo header.
ya think i fried more stuff than just the cpu?
now im really gettign that sick feeling :eh?:

Welcome to the forums on this somewhat ominous day. Opinions? If he fried the header then he may have lost the board but the cpu would have lost it as well. Have you taken out the cpu and looked at the top and bottom of it? Hoot might know the answer to this.

Regardless, lesson learned. Never plug high rpm fans into headers. ys techs, deltas, etc.

you should really get on contact with them if it was the fan that failed then its there fault this happened to me (except it was the board) and they replaced it (not theoverclockerzstore.com)

hell yea i messed w/it today and im OK :D

turns out the mobo header was smoked but the fan was still good.
and the cpu being a new xp instead of regular athlon has a built in device to keep itself from burning up !!!!!!!!!!
i plugged the fan into a molex connector after inspecting the cpu (which looked ok) and bam, it booted :p

so all is well and im one happy lil' camper.

thnks for the replys and help fellas

Every once in awhile someone smiles down at you. Glad to hear that there is life again. Want to try the other header?:D
