Well, started ohhhh15 years or so ago. More or less. 1200 baud modem. Been spending the last few years on a 56k modem. Well along comes a good cable deal and as a birthday gift (not till march) the wife gets the cable for me. Now if this is'nt one of the best Hardware mods then I'll be. Can't wait. Haven't seen cable before and am really looking forward to it. May not seem like much to some of you however I have a whole gaggle of kids so money does'nt just flow around here. Am really looking forward to monday. Did I mention that I'm really, really happy about this?:D

Note to self: Caseroles this month. Get wife REALLY good Valentines gift.

Once you have tasted the broadband crack-pipe you will never go back. I went without for about 8 months after graduating college and it was h*ll! LONG LIVE BROADBAND!

I will never go back, its broadband or nothing.
Just downloaded almost 200 megs of stuff in about 10 minutes.

On dial-up, it took all night to download a 15 meg file.
Think of the time it takes to view pages and files on dial-up, its worth the extra few dollars for broadband.

I personally have ad bad service with cable here. Constant down times, I'd rather stick with my DSL. But you'll be having fun with broadband none the less. :D

I did happen to mention that I am getting cable, right.

son is happy, no demo downloads are done here as a 80 meg demo is like 5 hours.

I've had really fast broadband internet access for about 8 months now and I will never give it up. The O/C Forums load instantly every time and I can download and upload anything I want in minutes not hours or days like a dial-up modem. Look Ma no wires! No Cable or DSL here! I have a fixed wireless broadband connection with a small diamond shaped dish antenna that's on my roof. Isn't that cool!

I used to have DSL, it wasout every other day and the speed was **** poor.
When I went for cable I was very doubtfull that it would be any better.
Like I said before, never again will I go for anything else, at least until something better comes along.

I have DSL with rocking speeds, and I think over the year+ I've had it, there have been maybe a total of three days downtime. But those three days felt like three lifetimes.

Cable has been great I've had it for about 2 years. Before the comcast switch I was getting over 3 Mbits. Its cooled down since then but still very fast.

I've had cable for about a year and a half, no comparison!

My service has been great with the exception of the @HOME debacle back in Nov. other than that I think I've had one outage for about seven minutes otherwise 24/7.

After the switch to AT&T Broadband my bandwidth's been cut in half. Now it's "ONLY" 1.5Mb, sure beats connecting at 42K.

My wife got me mine as a gift as well.

Your posts reminds me how fortunate I've been.

Welcome to the club, now you can waste your time faster.

Good Luck!

@home had never let me down, except for the times where upgrading was needed, although there were times where the cable here was down for like 2-3 days. Well, I guess at least one of those things happen in 2.5 years.

Cable is horrible!!!! I love it too much... I had it when I was in high school, so my parents paid for it... Now I can't live without it, so I have to pay way more money than I have, just for internet... Grrrrrrr.......

The real joy comes you discover that streamiing media works. Want to pick out a movie, watch previews on demand. All types of music, music videos, news, you name it.

I streamed a movie at 1.7M. That's 500 times faster than dialup, (too bad the movie stunk).

I've had cable for a year now and I could never go back to dial up. I have all 3 of the machines in my house sharing the connection and it is very fast still.

be mindfull of the tendonitis in your fore finger.. click click click.. that's about how fast you just went through 3 pages.. chuklz..
I finally "broke down" and budgeted the cost of cable about 8 months ago.. now I wouldn't go back.. the only trouble I had was last month when comcast finally unhitched itself from the @Home network.. was up and down for about 3 days.. when I go to the in-laws I don't even want to touch their computer from frustration with the slowness...
