I have an Asus A7A266 mobo coming soon and I want to get a great HSF so I'm ready to overclock or replace my Duron 750. I figured I'd go for one of the best first, rather than experiment.

According to the Alpha website, this mobo is incompatible with the Alpha PAL 8045, but they don't say why. Is there something that can be done to make it fit? Has anyone here got this combo?

if it is incompatible it probably means (because it is a large heatsink) that there is a resistor or some thing in the way. If you are really daring you could move the resistor but doing that would void all warentys and there is a good chance it wouldnt work. It would probably be better to go to a diffrent/smaller heatsink that still cools well

The Alpha is one great piece of machinery(HS). Don't mod that area of your board, there are plenty of options out there. Look at what Coolermaster or Thermalright has to offer in the 60mm catergory. You shouldn't suffer a performance loss if you go with the SK-6 or wait for the SK-600. Two excellent options.
