Hey :)

Being the slacker I am and all, I'm rather overdue to publish something on the news team. Working on my first WP article (well, here anyway) and wanted to make sure the subject matter was relevant.

Working on a "Roll Your Own Mega-UPS" article. Short version: Wiring an enterprise-grade rack mount UPS to car batteries. Nothing 'new' exactly, but I thought it would be interesting.

Should I continue with this, or choose another topic?

Sounds interesting to me. Would it give you additional time when the power goes out?

Oh, yes -- it increases the UPS uptime by tenfold. I haven't ran it that long, but based on the software and some tests, I can run about 12~16 hours. :)

That's pretty neat...the things people think of

So would that article be considered in my jurisdiction?

:p

Well that was the other piece I was thinking about...if it doesn't easily fit into any specific category, then perhaps I should consider something different?

I haven't started writing, other than uploading pictures, as I didn't want waste the time if it wasn't something we should publish. ;)

All-in-all I just want to earn my 'news team' title. <evil grin>

Just because it may not fit into a specific category we have set up, doesn't mean it should be dropped. I dunno about you, but rigging a UPS to car batteries sounds like modding to me

You want to earn a news team title? You can take over as a CE in an inactive area :)

Cool deal, I'll proceed with writing the article then. I got lucky, no job assignments this week, so I currently have free time this week. :D

Which areas need a CE? I'm always a glutton for punishment helping out.

:chair:

Although I'd need to make sure I have some experience in the area, else I'd be doing the team a disservice, IMHO.

Edit: From what I've read on hokie's sticky (http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=621838#generate), it looks like a CE basically has to drum up articles for the front page in their designated area, right?

Edit2: Ohh, found another sticky (http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=619972) with CE good info. It's amazing what you can learn when trying to find the answer!

I'll just take over the CE role for your article, just let me know if you need anything or have any questions.

I think these are the inactive areas:

- Power Supplies & Electronics
- Memory
- Microsoft Operating Systems
- Water Cooling
- Cyber Deals
- Laptop/Netbook/PDA/SFF
- News

If you're interested, just PM one or more of the Lead Editors (I.M.O.G., mdcomp, David, splat, and hokie).

Cool, will do Matt, thanks for the info. I've got a few more questions regarding a CE role, but I'll start a separate thread and let this one die. Or bug one (or more) of the Lead Editors. ;)

No problem, and more is usually better :D
