What are the stock speeds for the retail Radeon 7500 core/vmem? Anyone know of any rom/bios flashes available for this card? I would like to flash it to the retail bios if that's possible as the 8500 card is. If not, I'll just overclock it, but I need to know what the stock speeds are for the retail card so I know what to shoot for.
Also, if you guys could check out the specs on this card and tell me what you think. I ordered it from newegg.com It's listed under ATI and not "Powered by ATI" in the products by brand listing. Is this a decent card? Is it a retail card but just not new with the box?
Here's the specs:
ATI Radeon 7500 64MB DDR AGP OEM Powered by the RADEON 7500 graphics processing unit (GPU) High performance 3D graphics featuring ATI’s CHARISMA ENGINE PIXEL TAPESTRY and HYPER Z technologies RADEON 7500 display engine enables many combinations of CRT (VGA), digital flat panel (DVI), and TV displays.Hydravision Multiple Monitor anagement Software provides a flexible, user-friendly interface for multiple display settings Supports DirectX 8.0® and openGL - NO DVI to VGA Adaptor Model#: RADEON 7500 Special Free FedEx Saver Shipping

Retail speed is 290/230(460 ddr) ram , check my sig I have a retail 7500 they overclock well , I have had mine as high as 344/560 but performance was not as good as lower overclocks so I have settled at 342/522 but it does run very well at 342/540

what's a common speed for the 7500s on the OEM cards? What's the vmem rated at also, 3.6ns? Thanks for the quick reply
My NEWEGG oem was set at at 230/180
So far with stock cooling I've been able to hit 290/345:rolleyes:
My point is...not ALL 7500 overclock well.
Infact, that can be said for all of ATI's stuff, either get retail, or try and luck out on a good OEM...:

Okay, I downloaded Flashradeonv201. I see the 7500 files. What do I need to know about the card before I flash it. What's required of the card to be flashed? Example: Does it have to be able to be overclocked that far first? Does it need a certain speed ram (3.6ns)? How do I check to see if it's a working flash? Thanks for all your help.
Also, in the card pictured which does it use? NTSC or PAL.
Thanks again

The ram speed is noted right on the ddr ram, if it says 40 then you have 4 ns ddr ram and I would bet you have 4ns ddr ram or possibly even 5 since it is an OEM card and NTSC.
Just flash it then see what happens on your overclock.
The OEM cards can be clk/mem in a number of different speeds depends on the 3rd party manufacture company.
The best OEM card I have read about is the Powermagic card as it is clk/mem the same as ATI retail cards and it overclocked very well. Here is the review

Also the Supergrace model did well to,

Which vmem speed is needed to flash with retail bios? 3.6ns?
Can you give me a gauge on how fast each speed of vmem can overclock to? 3.6ns - 290/230 4.0ns - ???/???
Thanks again

Whenever I overclock, what should I use/do to test it and see if it's an OK overclock. When do I know it's too much? What are artifacts? Thanks

Use Powerstrip to overclock, and artifacts are what you notice when your video card has been overclocked past its limits.
You will notice tearing of images and odd happenings that occur to items on your screen. Back off the overclock and try a lower speed in 3D Mark 2K1

Ok Cisco Kid, now is your chance! I found I retail Radeon 7500 for $85 shipped, I'm gonna compare it my Geforce 2 Ti 500 and see what it is all about. What is the best driver (latest, most compatible, Win98) and is there a tweaking utility that includes an overclocking tool so I don't have to add power strip also. Do you think it would help the core clock to put a better cooler on the GPU, or will this not be worth the performance increase? Will the retail come with ramsinks like the Geforce? Can the Radeon handle an 82MHz AGP bus?
Thanks
Edit, by the way, my current configuration gets 5600 in default 3DMark 2001. But I have plenty of speed, if the Radeon 7500 looks better, that will be nice.
I built a system using that exact card from newegg. I was able to clock it up to 350/350 core-mem before I saw artifacts. Runs solid at anything below that speed. Stock cooling.
Had Hynix 4ns memory chips. Good card, I bet if you had a crystal orb and some copper ram sinks with some airflow over them it would smoke !
Stock speeds on it were 230/270 if im not mistaken.

I did not know there is a G2 Ti500 I though just G2 Ti200, the cards are very close overall the 7500 offers a few additional features the G2 Ti series does not such as TV out with HDTV support @ 1024x768 and very good hardware dvd support. Yes the 2D visula quality can be improved on Geforce 2 and Ti series cards but it involves a mod and you can damage the card but it works bringing their image quality closer to that or equal to ATI cards. Also offers dual monitor suport if you need.
In pretty much all reviews the ATI cards get picked as second to Matrox cards for overall visual clarity/quality. I can post links which compare the G2 Ti200 to 7500 in 3D Gaming clarity/quality and the 7500 is better. The G2 Ti200 does do open gl a bit better but with the newest 7500 drivers out now they have also improved the open gl experience.
The price you have found of $85 for a retail is amazing, where is this from, and is it a RETAIL ATI made 7500 or retail from 3rd party vendor?
Would love to see the link, anyways at the price you can not go wrong and then you will be able to compare performance and image quality which to me is the most imp, and I use the TV out for my 40" HDTV widescreen!!!!!
Woow I just read the other posts and people seem to have had good success with the card you found and overclocking it. Also 7500 do not come with ramsinks at all, mine is Crystal Orb'd

I found it at NovaPC on pricewatch yesterday. However, I just went there to get the link and now they have the same card listed as a 7500 SDR. I didn't even know there was a version with SDRAM. On second thought, they don't look like they know what they are talking about, so I will order it from somewhere else. Gainward makes a Geforce 2 Ti 500 that comes with 4ns memory chips and ramsinks. It overclocks very well, that is what is in my signature. Thanks for the info, any insight on the best driver version and a tweaker that includes an overclocking utility?

Use powersrtip or Radeon Tweaker and here is a link to omega's site , the drivers are tweaked version that work well, I am using the 3276 from ATI cause I had a conflict with my TV tuner card and a beta and I just did not want to be bothered by trying another driver, since then no probs
One of the better 7500's to buy is made by Powermagic or Supergrace here is the review, and link to Omega

What program did you use to overclock? When I used Powerstrip, I can only get 285/300. Which leads me to believe that the the oc proggie from 3drage isn't working.
What OEM brand do you have? I'll have to check it's stock settings again since core settings are so low.
I have no idea what brand it was. IT was on newegg, under the ATI section, and not the "powered by ATI" section. When I got it I think it was 95-100 bucks.
I used the Rage3d.com tweaker to overclock it. The tweaker maxed out at 350/350, and so did the card.
IF I were not holding out for a Gf4 or Radeon 8500 I would buy a 7500 for myself, but upgrading from a regular Radeon isn't really worth it, though you do see the differance.

I ran powerstrip and got a stock setting of 250/180 :eh?:
I baselined the card at 385X in 3dmark 2001.
Powerstrip made my monitor freak even though the settings were stock and the refresh rate on the monitor was lowered to 60hz(max is 75@1600x1200).
I'll got back and fool around with 3drage
This is what I was able to do with the card on a Athlon 1600 XP with EPOX DDR board with no overcocking except for the video card...

I got a refurb Powercolor 7500 from newegg for $89. it has the 4ns Hynix chips and came clocked at 270/230. i can get the core to 340 before I start to see sparklies, but I can only get the memory up to 235 before the picture tears really bad.
I have heard of others that could not get the memory to do anything either, so I think its hit or miss.

OEM is a crapshoot, some you win others you do not. To ensure an overclcok remember you need case ventilation and it is best to replace the stock fan/heatsink. I say you should get more out of the mem than 235 especially if it is 4ns ddr ram.
Try lowering your core speed as it is way to high for the mem , I say give a go at 290-300/240-250.

It runs faster than the 8500??!!!!
I like this post, as a result of it I got my radeon 7500 retail to 340/306. With powerstrip the memory clock only goes to 305...would I need to be running a higher resolution than 800 X 600 for that to change?
I was satisfied with how my display looked earlier...but more never hurts!
One more thing, is upgrading from the retail hsf on it a good idea? Those Blorbs are only 10 bucks at frys, and I have some AS3 around. I wouldn't mind upgrading it, if its that cheap, in fact I wouldn't mind going beyond 10 bucks for it. I plan on putting in an order with SVC since their so close to me soon, maybe I'll try whatever the best AGP cooler is they've got. I also have some heatsinks lying around that I never used, I might cut them up and make them ramsinks.
Thanks again for the info.
One more thing! I've heard you can do custom resolutions with powerstrip, is it possible to get something between 800 X 600 and 1024 X 768?
Thanks guys!

Blorb?! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! :D :D If that's all that is available, then yeah, it would help alot. Use Artic Alumina instead of AS3, as it is non conductive.
Here are what they have:
http://www.svcompucycle.com/chipsetcoolers1.html
Whats wrong with the blorb? What about the silver looking one, is it better? It's still quiet right?
What kind of improvement are any of the orbs or any chipset cooler over the retail ATi one?

Put your hand over the stock fan. Most people cant feel any air being moved. the ThermalTake Corb will help tremendously.
I agree, not much air moved. Is this the "Corb" http://www.svcompucycle.com/crysorbforvg.html ?
If so it's all me!! Also, ramsinks a good idea?

Crystal Orb, yep. Ramsinks are always a good investment.
