So I dropped an Athlon II x4 640 (Propus) into my WHS server, replacing an Athlon II X2 250 (Regor,) and I've watched my RAC and 'credit granted' per task drop! Digging further, I've concluded that the cause is the drop in L2 cache. The X2 has 1MB per core, while the X4 has 512K per core. Both chips are at stock 3Ghz, neither have L3 cache.

Reading on the Rosetta forums brings up discussions that you get the biggest boost from larger L2 caches. I recall FAH having the Allendale Blues, when the C2Ds were either 2 or 4MB. Anyway, just a reminder, that if you're looking to max out your Rosetta powah, go for L2 cache. The bigger the better.

The other nugget I found out is, unlike SETI, Rosetta doesn't use a 'wingman' to validate your task. A task is only crunched once, and points are calculated based on some weighted average, and not on the raw BOINC benchmarks.

Oh yeah. Q9550@3.6GHz > Q6600@3.6GHz. Noticed it right away.
Actually, even my stock Q9450 crunched noticeably better than the stock Q6600. More than just a 200MHz advantage should I mean.
That 12MB cache does the trick, no doubt about it.
