Just got my asus i845 ddr mobo - p4b266c and retail 1.6a northwood. Running with thermaltake p4 volcano heatsink and 1.6v - temps stable at 40c ,145fsb.
Completely stable at 2.3+ghz - will try for more later - starting to scare me !
My sandra mem scores at spd settings (haven't even pushed the ram yet) are at 2200+ .
Just got a 8453 3dmark2k1SE score whereas my xp1800+ at xp2000+ only got an 8050 !
For 165 dollars (300 total incl mobo and shipping from newegg), this thing rocks !
I am once again an intel believer!

Noone seemed to listen before but now you are proof that an overclocked 1.6 or 1.8 Northwood is the best value buy now. I knew by looking around the web a 2.4 Northwood beats the overclocked XP. Now i also know everyone here with these chips seem to hit 2.4 easily! Post a screen shot of your SiSoft Sandra scores for us. Try to resize them to all fit the screen in one picture if you can.

Great overclock!

I can't wait to get my Northwood next month when my work picks up. No need for a 2.0 or bigger from what i've been reading here.

are you using any special heatsink ? coz I'm using the retail hsf but it seems to hit 50 C all the time even with artic silver on it and good casing ventilation in a/c room! sigh!

I've got 3 readings...
41C
51C and 25C

Not sure which is which exactly on MBM5 though =)
I think 41C is case temp but funny coz it remained at about 39 even after removing the case.

I'll agree with everyone else here; the 1.6A is THE CPU to overclock now. Mine is fixed at 2352 now. Not a single hiccup. It runs up to 150, but crashes after about 4 hours of Prime95, so with a little better cooling 2400 is definitely a possibility. However, I notice in 3DMark2001, even at 2350 MHz, it gets repeatedly smacked around by an (also overclocked) Athlon XP/KT266A combo; by hundreds of points in most cases. It also does exceedingly poorly in Serious Sam benches (which is a known P4 weak point; no big deal if you don't play it, but I do :D)
However, number crunching potential is exceptional at this speed, it runs Quake III like a demon, and its response time inside Windows and switching from big task to big task takes a snap....slightly better, it seems, than the aforementioned XP systems. All in all, a solid CPU. The motherboard I have is now at newegg for $73+shipping - MSI 645 Ultra - it's solid, and faster than comparable Intel boards while being quite a mark cheaper. Good stuffs, these Northwoods!
