View Full Version : Should I buy Black Ops for PC?

I heard of all of the lags and stutters and whatnot that has been going around in Black Ops PC.
But I also heard that there were patches that fixed most of the lagging issues.
So, after all, should I buy Black Ops for PC now?
Like does it get boring quickly or has some other problems?
I'm wondering if it's worth the 60 bucks, because I don't wanna waste it.
I don't have a ps3 or an xbox 360, so please offer opinions on PC please :)
If I shouldn't buy Black Ops for PC, should I buy modern warfare instead?
Or some other game?
Thanks,
Blingles.

BO is okay I went through the 50 ranks 3 times and then got bored of the maps. I liked it better than MW. It does have some stuttering issues but there are some settings you could tweak in the console to make them go away. I am not sure if they added an update to correct them without going into the console.

if you down own it already pick it up, i have not played MW2 how ever, so i dont have much to compare to, i love it.....i played a crap load of bc2 before BO, both are sweet, BC2 has the sick graphics, and a more tactical game play plus vehicles are pimp. although ive been playing rift today and probably will be for the weekend now :D add me on steam if you do get it, fatticus89
*edit* BC2 is dirt cheap too, think its down to 20 or 30 bucks now..BO is still around the 60 mark i think ... this is CDN funds..

I can't really comment on the lag and technicalities of the game since I'm a console player, however if your after a suggestion, my suggestion to you would be to buy Modern Warfare 2 instead of Call of Duty Black Ops or Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
Yeah, Call of Duty: Black Ops is great, however it gets boring pretty quickly because you can just buy stuff instead of having to unlock them. In my opinion, Call of Duty: Black Ops is only 'funner' than Modern Warfare 2 because of the different Wager Matches you can play.
Take this for example. I played Call of Duty: Black Ops for around a month now and have since quit (I haven't even been to first prestige yet!). I've been rockin' Modern Warfare 2 for over 12 months now and I do not see myself quitting in the near future.
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is a great game but it's 4 years old now and most people have moved onto the later games of the Call of Duty series.
Best of luck in choosing a game!
the new maps for black ops are coming out soon too if you dont mind dumping 15 bucks on them :)

don't listen to the advice given by magic overdrive (sorry magic) because as a console player he does not know the wonders of the server browser. MW2 was awful because it didn't have one, it forced console match making on us.
get BO and BC2. both great.
I have both BO and BF:BC2 and I have to agree with hUMANbEATbOX.
BC2 is also going for cheap on steam still... $20, and the expansion, for $15

COD BO is a good "fun" game to play IMO. BFBC2 and BFBC2 VN expansion are also fun but teamwork is required to be successful in those games. Unfortunately I don't get too much cooperation from team mates in those two so I prefer COD BO.
get them BOTH
I never ranked all the way up in bc2 I got bored
I've played about 135 hours in BO and I am half way thru prestige 12 and I am not bored yet.

I am the opposite of Rattle, I prefer Bad Company 2 over Blops, but I own both, and feel they each have their strengths and weaknesses.
I am really fond of the destructible environments in Bad Company 2.

I did not think the game was worth $60.
Cons:
While the majority of the stability issues have been fixed the game still runs like crap. It takes a quad core and new video card to render the same graphics that were easily attained on a single core computer with video card several generations old.
While there are a couple good maps I found the maps got boring very quickly. My favorite map is just a recreation of crossfire from MW1, most of the other maps are mediocre.
There are a lot of issues with spawn points. This is not a big deal on TDM with the spawn delay but it hugely annoying on instant spawn games such as HQ. Many of the spawn points are extremely close together so you will spawn 20 feet from an enemy.
Single player was very short.
I did not find the weapons to be very balanced. In any given game you will find a ton of weapons that no one uses except when they are leveling.
While there are dedicated servers admins do not have full control over them in ranked servers. They have to run very specific game types. The only way to have a server with full control is to have an unranked server, but then you don't have anyone to play with.
The servers you rent are rather unstable and I find that you get kicked off because the server drops quite often (we would have to choose a new server at least 1-3 times a night when playing as a group because the server would crash and DC everyone)
When you do DC you don't get credit for any of the achievements, money or levels that you earned in that game.
Pros:
Dedicated servers are better then IW net.
Grenades are well balanced so there is no nade spam like in previous games.
There is a zombie mode which provides variety for the people who enjoy it (not my thing but I can see it being fun)
Due to dedicated servers the community is better then MW2.
Check steam sales for battlefield bad company 2 sales. I got the game for $6

I agree it definitely takes a quad core for smooth game play, but im very happy with my ole 285 gtx.
Went from a 5830 to a 8800GTX...still plays fine at 1680x1050.

The problem I have with this is the fact that I can run MW2 quite smoothly and have it look good on my laptop; a 1.6 pentium-m (single core) with a 6800 go, yet black ops a game with the same engine, that in fact looks worse (at least in my opinion) requires a quad core and significantly better graphics card.

My thought exactly, I bought Medal of Honor and Black Ops within a week of each other for $60 ea. (BO on release day) and bought BC2 right after for $15 on steam, I haven't played MoH or BO since I bought BC2.
