hi all,
i have a really crappy 300 generic ps, and i get bad +5v and fluculating +3.3, and everything else, so i am getting a new ps.
i can get a new antec 300 watt from a friend for alittle under $50, which seems pretty good, but my question is.... is the antec 300 watt a good ps? and will it give good constant voltages? like i was a rock solid +5 and +3.3 will this provide? or is there another one you would reccomend?
i'm getting a new athlon xp proc soon, and planning to overclock everything out of it, so i needs lots of power!
thanks,
-Aaron
I've heard nothing but good words about the Antec psu's. >$50 makes it even better.
You can find those 300w Antec's on pricewatch.com for $34-35. Isaw one a few days ago, on some site I cant remember, for $30. Although the antecs have a generally good rep, I've heard better things about Sparkle, the most important of which is, that even in their 300w supplies the 3.3 and 5v rails put out 200w. Very important if you're going to overclock. I just bought a HEC 350, $46 delivered, before I read the blurb about Sparkle. I'll let you know how it works tmw. Hey Ichelo, did that bios change I told you about on the soyo board forum work on your dragon ?

You can get a 350w Antec ps @ www.newegg.com for $46.00,I would look at 350 or bigger(400) for future oc'ing and upgrades.

I would recommend that you get one bigger than 300 watts.
I recently found out that insufficient power will limit your overclocking ability.
i just got my sparkle 400 watt, i would save a little more and get one of thses! haven't had a low reading yet on my 3.3 or 5volt, but if i did by chance it has little pots inside that you can adjust. i love it
Just installed a HEC 350w. PSU, ran a coupleof cpu intensive things and the 5v rail puts out from between 4.96-5.1, 12 v. runs about 12.3-12.4 w/3 7200 rpm HD's, + CD & floppy too. Also have my 1.4Tbird OC'd to 1.6 during all this, so, not too bad I'm happy. After reading just about every post re: PSU's that's come up in the last few weeks, the one thing I learned is that you can have a disappointing result with almost any power supply. I was regretting ordering this HEC brfore I read how great the Sparkle supplies were, and wished I'd bought one of those, but then I read the post by Tainice today, re: the Sparkle, and I'm glad I didn't get the Sparkle. I dont think it ever hurts to have as much wattage as you can afford. 300w seems a little low for modern processors, unless everything is putting out all the juice thet should. You're always taking a chance when you buy one of these things, I just noticed the HEC has no warranty whatsoever, so wish me luck, (but even a warranty wouldn't do you much good in a low volt situation, so...)

I have two Antec P4/Athlon ready cases both with Antec smart fan 300watt power supplies. One cost $69.00 The other $85.00. If you're gonna spend $50.00 for that supply might as well spend a little more for an excellent case that includes it. My dime.

Hello,
I have an Antec SOHO file server case with a 300 wat Antec supply. My Digital Doc 5 shows the voltage only moving about .03 volts at the most. So it is a nice supply. It is very quite. But I would recomend you open it up and have the fan bypass the temp. control unit so that you can get better performance.

at 1.91 vcore with all my stuff (see sig) the lowest 5v line gets is 4.93. IMO antec makes the best PSU's...

ok, well it looks like around 30-34 for it, which is a nice price.
jboy, i tried it and so far everything seems good :) so yeah that might have done it, thanks!
I'm glad that fix worked for you Ichelo, because soyo tech support never responded to my e-mail. If I hadn't stumbled on the fix I'm sure we'd have been flopping around forever. Man they got crappy tech support.! It must be a bug in ther bios.

problems with mobo was that first, randomly would lock up trying to go into bios, and second, when going to monitor fan/temps in bios, would always lock up right away. turning off the boot other devices option has seemed to help that...
