Multiplier question

My BA+III has a max multiplier of 8.0 so what happens if I use a newer processor which has a faster multiplier? The CPU is locked at whatever speed (say 10x) so will it just not boot or will the CPU override the mobo and boot at 10x?

I've read others say that it will work anyway. I'm not so sure. My P3 1100 wouldn't work in my Abit board until I updated to a BIOS rev that supported the higher multiplier.

SY6 BA 3 Board Multipliers

My wife has the SY6 BA3 and it is running the 566 Celly at 852mz.

See if there is a newer version of bios out that supports the higer multipliers.
