The price was to good. And I had to do something to keep moving on up :D

If i had a better mobo I would have gotten 2 but only 1 pci-e slot.:rain:
Congrats on the new hardware. Looks like you'll be passing me in RAC soon.
I've still got a spare slot if you wanna send one of those my way. :)

Om nom nom! Looking forward to seeing how that thing performs :D

As Long as you put the that system onto my acct :D

2 WU in about 30~ish min or about 4 per hour.

Hmm, that's not bad! Do you know if it's better to run 2 WU or not? I've been trying to work out why running 2 WU on my GTX216 is a rather large performance hit, but running on the GTX4xx series, 2 WU seems to run better..
To compare:
GTX216 / GTS450
GPU:650mhz / 920mhz
Mem:2000mhz / 4104mhz ([112GB/sec] / [65.6GB/sec])
Shaders:216 / 192
ROPs:28 / 16
Is it just the updated architecture/higher clocks? :screwy:

the 450 has 1GB of DDR5. And mine is also clocked at 930/1860/1950:comp:

The mem/core clock def help. As for running one at a time it got around 14~ish min on the one that it did.
It is pretty understood that the 450 does 3.75 WU an hour on average.

896 on the 216 vs 1024 on the 450.. an average WU takes ~330MB each, so running 2 on either shouldn't run into any trouble

The core clock I can understand being a rather large contributor, but the mem clock? Given the 128bit bus of the 450, the bandwidth is essentially halved comparatively  It must just be that the 4xx series like running simultaneous WU, whereas the 2xx series doesn't.. because I see a good 60% decrease in productivity running 2 WU.. just trying to figure out why the 2xx series doesn't like running multiple WU.. less efficient mem controller? core architecture simply not designed to run multiple WU? 'tis a conundrum!
Either way, congrats on the card! I'm kinda tempted to pick one up for myself  Crunch on!

MicroCenter Openbox. Somebody bought the wrong card and returned right away. :D (box was opened packaging was not.)

Well doesn't the 2xx series have optimized apps that make them faster than the 4xx's.
Have your tried running 2 with your i7? I thought it was your single core not being able to feed the GPU?

Ohh, actually, good point. I forgot Fermi uses Cuda23 (aka SETI 6.09) vs the 2xx series' 6.08.. my bad x.x

Yeah, same deal :( I thought it was the single core just not being able to feed 2 WU to the GPU (and it partly is), but also it just doesn't play nice running 2 WU :(
With 8 threads, + GPU (which appears to run better than any kind of disabling of cores/threads to dedicate to the GPU.. oddly), I get ~12min 30sec for a GPU WU, but if I run 2 WU, I get both done in ~30mins.. which is ~25% decrease in productivity (note that baseline, CPU crunching disabled, only GPU crunching enabled, I see WU times of 11min 15sec).
I had forgotten about the Fermi cards and how they react to the new app - so you're quite right :o for various reasons the Cuda23 app isn't as well optimised (I'm guessing because the Fermi cards are harder to code for), so to get around it, they suggest running multiple WU at a time.. if there was a facepalm emote, I'd use it for my stupidity now, but :chair: will have to do! :p

I guessing since fermi uses a different architecture than the 2xx's series that is what is causing the difference.

Don't spill any of that epic sauce on your mobo. :p

I'll have to work on getting more GPU's. I am thinking i will add another 470 to the mix.

quiet you. Your not helping. (hates not being in first place:mad: must move up.) What can I say I am competitive. And it is for a good cause.

I am just happy being in the top 3 again. P.S. You aren't the only one added new additions to the farm. It seems that Ty has a couple 460's that I don't remember being on his computer list.
Don't look at me upgrading anytime soon. Looking to buying another new car within a year. That kinda limits my options.

Yea Tyrinon seems to moving up at a pretty good clip. It is all for science thou.:grouphug:
I wonder how much more he will move up?
