View Full Version : $50 (United States) to the next predictor of the day (member of our team)

I'm offering $50 to the next member of our team payable through paypal, that gets the predictor of the day status on rosetta@home homepage.
A predictor of the day is the person who's computer/server/toaster-running-linux predicted the lowest energy protein structure for a given protein (what rosetta@home is all about). You can find out if you are the predictor of the day if you check the rosetta@home (http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/) site, or this thread, or the predictor of the day archive (http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=670286), or eventually you will get my PM.
Previous winners
PolRoger - PAID
baditude_df - PM SENT - Declined Prize, see post on next page
jr1 - PAID
HankB PAID
Proof of winning can be found in the following posts.
For those not familiar with the term, what is predictor of the day, and how does one obtain it?
Also, as this is related to the March contest, you should post it over there! :D

This is not related to the March contest but a separate "incentive" to push up the RAC production of the team.

Predictor of the day: Congratulations to Nebula (Team University of Washington) for predicting the lowest energy structure for workunit t498__boinc_nmr_cm_rnd1_cs_frags_abrelax_tex__2283 5_0 !
The goal is to get that title. There are currently two ways to get the title. Guess which is the best one for the team:
1) Crunch as many WUs as possible. This increases the chance of crunching the winning protein structure.
2) Know someone at the project and ask them to put you on the predictor of the day list. This greatly increases your chance of winning, but also decreases the chance of the team to get anything out of it, which really cancels the cause for this prize.
Ahhh, OK! I mis-assumed given the reference to 15th place, which is one of the March goals. :D
And this has to be done while running Linux? (Yes, I'm a Rosetta nub, sorry!!!)

Toaster-running-linux is what he meant I think, I missed that the first time too.
Predictor of the day can be running any OS, but your toaster isn't likely to be able to run boinc unless it's a linux model :D

Yes any OS is acceptable. Will edit my post as Bobnova suggests. We are all mistakes and make humans afterall :p
OK, cool, makes sense. Thanks for answering my silly questions. :D

Our predictors of the day have been recorded throughout the Status thread. I should probably make a dedicated thread so that is more easily referenced.
The last person to do it was muddocktor back in post #1621 (http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showpost.php?p=6646231&postcount=1621)
Cool! Do they email you or anything if you make it, or is there some way to automatically know?

Nope. it's pretty much like becoming "User of The Day". Unless you're on the Rosetta home page on a daily basis you'll miss it, but if you like to search through the past winners like I do, you can typically pick out the Overclockers.com members pretty quick.
EDIT: Archive (http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=670286) Made! :)
Hmmm...well, being the lazy (yet efficient!) nerd that I am, I've found how you can do this.
<insert evil grin here>
So go to Changedetection.com (https://www.changedetection.com/) and drop in the Rosetta page (http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/) to monitor it.
On the second step, choose the following options shown below, but type in your user name (or whatever name you want to monitor). :D
Enjoy!

Thanks for the tips!
We'll see how the next predictor goes. Time and money permitting it could become a regular thing for this team.

Congratulations from me too, PM me to claim your reward.
I'm currently left unemployed, so I regret to inform you guys that for the time being, I cannot offer another reward. Sorry about that. I'm a man of my word though, PolRoger will get the $50 as promised.

Congrats on that but I was offering money for the predictor of the day. You can have a :soda: and :grouphug: though.
PS.
Does anybody know how to change a thread title? I cannot figure it out so I can change the title of this thread.

What do you want to change it to?

To something along the lines of "currently suspended" to reflect the fact that for the time being I cannot afford another reward due to being unemployed. Going to a work interview tomorrow, hopefully I'll get the job.
Without promising anything (so that it cannot be used against me in a court of law :p) I will gradually reward any future predictors of the day, as long as I have a job. For example if someone becomes predictor of the day tomorrow, and I get a job tomorrow, I'll reward him when i get payed. Could be end of the week, could be end of the month.
The title needs to be changed so that people don't have any bad feelings about not receiving an instant reward.

Thanks LiGhTBoY!!!
Payment received. I'll make sure the reward funds get applied in someway towards increasing my Rosetta RAC. :) Keep on crunching... :comp:

This is easy enough, just report the post and ask a mod to change the title for you.
