This Benz guy from Taiwan...any know is this is legit?

I assume the senior team members know about this, I'm just
curious myself if he's got a some MAD OC'd P4s in a farm, or
if it's just a total BS hack...I'd be very dissapointed if it was
the latter.

Besides, tossing him from the team would put me up one notch
:D

An e-mail was sent to SETI@home asking to check the integrity of Benz4140's results. A couple of people are wondering how he could crunch WUs so fast. No one has ever seen him around the forums either, so it's hard to ask him directly. The note went to Berkely a couple of weeks ago; we should hear soon.

Well, were all pretty sure he is using a patched version. I don't believe any CPU avaliable on the market are capable of times under 1 hour. Don't ya think?

I hope Berkely replies soon :(

he's had times under .3 hours
this is impossible
hence hes using a hacked client

hopefully hear back from the seti people soon

Anybody looked at his Seti profile by chance? Kind of unusual....

Background: "My CPU is Tbird1.0@1.5Ghz."

Seti Thoughts: "Why do we run SETI@home?"

Those tbirds sure are fast

None on the comsumer market, but a couple can achieve those scores.

True True...but I doubt he has a Big Blue or White on the
beach with him on Tailand.

Is there a way he can be voted out of the team at least?
While I'm sure it will hurt us on the overall stats, I hate
thinking that we have that in our ranks.

Ever clicked on the link in his Bio? It goes to some electronics sales/distribution site... he may have MANY machines set to run SETI... its possible. On that we can all agree.

AND, I was brousing old SETI posts and found that if a huge part of your w/u is static and unreadable, then the system logs it as complete even though it could only crunch a small percent, it is then recrunched to verify the data before it is discarded.

I will try to find that thread again, but that could explain the very odd low number of .3. If anyone remembers that thread please post it again.

My parents use to live in Vietnam, and they went to Thailand yes. To be running that many machines and living in Thailand, he would be broke. In those asian countries they barely even use electricity.

What a speedy Tbird!

hehe

I'm sure you didn't mean that statement to come across as harshly it did. It's a poor assumtion to think that there is no one in Thailand that could afford so much cpu power.

Come come now yall, don't squabble.... Zo, I think that he was just saying that most smaller countries have much higher costs for power, which is true is it not? Very few people are dedicated enough to spend hundred each month crunching. ( I coud not run my one machine 24/7 if I paid for the power over here) Who knows, personally I think he might have (or work for) some company who has a liberal policy (or one that is ignored LOL) and some decent machines...... you know with 10-15 decent boxes of 1.2 or so & up, 47 wu a day would not be that unrealistic....... or 20-25 running off-peak time only..... who knows....... I will be anxious to find out, but we cannot bash anyone till the facts are found..... frankly it would be quite a bummer to lose Benz if he were hacking, much less if he was not and we alienated him by accusations...... Well... I am gonna surf on and dream of catching Seti Germany...... LOL Later Jim

One point seems to keep getting over looked here. The problem is not his daily output - the issue is his time per work unit. At one point it was as low as .3 hrs/unit. To get that you either have to patch the client, or every unit you process has to be bad and finishes early. I have had as many as 15 machines running seti 24/7 before, and I saw a bad unit like that maybe once or twice a month. Not nearly enough to get my average time down that low. It's just plain fishy, and the last time this happened the guy was using a patched client. From his profile it appears as though he works for an online bank in Thailand. He very well could have plenty of machines to run seti on, but there aren't any machines that will crunch that fast right now.

On that note, could he be sending the same Wu with alot of static each time ?

No they're not going to give you credit for doing the same unit over and over.

DOH! TC you caught me with my brain off.. oops..... I get off track pretty easy... GF calls me "ADD Boy" sad huh? yeah I see your point, and you are right..... wonder if he has some prog to cutoff any wu that crunched more than 10 min or so, so that he "filters" and only does screwy ones...? Still technically legal right? even thoguh it is morraly out of the question........ what do ya think? Jim :burn:

Funny my wife calls me just about the same thing. Anyway I'm not sure about your idea. I guess that might be possible.

If so that seems liek a lot of work just to impress those who may figure it out and really despise ya LOL...... honesty might not be fast.... but at least its consistent..... Later Jim :burn:
