View Full Version : XP Shim Question...
I bought a Cool-Shim XP Socket A (http://www.theoverclockingstore.co.uk/productinfo.php?codeid=800572) made by CoolerGuys. I've never used a shim before, but I thought that the shim was ment to have some adhesive on one of the sides to stick it to the CPU? I've looked at my shim, but I can't see anything, can a just place it between my CPU and heatsink without sticking it down? Or is this not wise??

just set it on there. But make sure it is perfectly lined up.
Perfectly on there. There are many that do not use them do to them being slightly off and the cpu frying. If it is not on there right then you will never know what went wrong before the cpu is dead. Besides, i sometimes change out the cpu and I do this with the case standing up. No way could I get a shim on and all right with the case verticle.
Make shure your case is lying flat before you try putting the shim on. You may even want to use a very small amount of thermal goop on the shim so it sticks in place.
