I just fried my XP-1700 @ 1.617 MHz With Alpha PAL 8045 HS and 60 CFM Y.S. Tech Fan. (MSI K7T266 Pro2) Anyone need to get rid of an XP? I'd rather have an XP in there instead of using an old T-bid that's sitting around.
I have a duron 650 if you want it :D
Check out the classifieds section perhaps.
Is the mobo still OK after the XP being fried?

I don't have enough posts to check the Classifieds :P
I just noticed it this morning before comoing to work, So I didn't have time to test the mobo. The $hitty part is that I have an Alpha 8045 hsf so I have to take out the mobo completely :(
Too much work.
I'll save my money and use the T-bird that is lying around and upgrade to the new .13 AMD's when they come out.
i wouldnt expect that processor to fry with that heatsink at that speed. Hard luck, dude.

I know, the OC wasn't even that great and the HS is almost one of the best you can get, I even had the side of the case off the whole time too and used arctic silver 2. For some reason I still have heat problems on all my computers. This one was running at like ~49 - 51 degrees (Celsius) full load. Can't get warranty either because the L1's were tampered with last month :)

Sorry, my mistake! The Mobo is actually dead. I put the proc in a different mobo and it worked. Damn MSI. I'll replace it with an Abit KR7A(ATA 133) Anyone know if ti is any good?
I just want the ATA 133
if your are just looking for the ata 133 shuttle makes a very nice, affordible, very overclockable board, the AK35. I have the board one step down and i love it

Dude, sorry to hear. What could possibly fry the mobo? Unless the chipset got out of wack. I'm really scared of my chipset going out anytime soon too!

Yodums: The funny thing is that I have 4 Via 266 Mobos. Two of them have fans, one of them has a huge heatsink, and the one without the fan and the small dinky little 2mm heatsink is the one that died. I still have warranty on the board though. Thank god it wasn't the proc.
Angry: I posted this pic brefore on this forum but here it goes again:

Yodums: what maks you think that your chipset is going fry soon?
I think I'm gonna go with another Epox 8KHA+ and sell the MSI when warranty gives me a new one.

Just that running the VIO/VIO1 up alot and with 166fsb scares me :) Although I did add ASII to the northbridge, hope it taken care of it :)

all i can say is..your lucky!!..Mobo's are cheap..XP's arent...but you need to get a handle on those temps...Im running a 1700 at 1.65 and it never gets over 40c(if the room gets really warm,,)....and all i have is a Tt volcano 6cu+ and AS3

That makes me mad, I see all those people here running OC'd XP's and their temps are so low? In my dual XP-1700, those things are barely OC'd and I am running 46-47 Degrees, the rest of them are running at like 50ish.
I always look at the temps in the BIOS,, are those innacurate?
Like, I mean, my XP-1700 OC @1.617 ran at 51 degrees with an alpha 8045, AS2, and a Y.S. tech 60 cfm fan and no side panel. hmmmmm,,, my basement is not exactly warm either. I should put it in the garage to see how much higher it can go. It's like -20 outside. :)

Too bad newegg doesn't ship to Canada. Actually there are alot of great web deals I come across that won't ship to Canada. If they do, its so expensive to ship, that it pretty much negates any of the discount.

Well it turns out the my computer dealer was nice enough to replace the new mobo on the spot for me! saved me some money.
Overclocker550: How did I get such a high speed? I upped the voltage to 1.85 to the proc, I downed the multiplier to 7.5 instead of 13, I upped the RAM voltage to 2.8, and upped the FSB to 200. It wasn't very stable, but I managed to open WCPUID, take a snapshot, crop the pic, save it and when I opened IE, it reset on me.
Surprisingly it didn't take much.

Use a program such as Motherboard Monitor 5.1 to allow you to see your temps while the system is up and running. This way you can see loaded and unloaded temps and get a better feel for what's really happening.
