I'm thinking of upgrading from my current Athlon 64 3500+ to an Athlon 64 X2 5000+ but am not sure if it will even work. I've checked a bunch of sites and it should be compatible but can't say for sure. Also I'm not sure if I can have a different cache size on a new processor than I have now. I'm not sure if I have an NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI or NVIDIA nForce 570 Ultra because my pc says it's M2N-E at startup, but as you see in the picture it says SLI and at http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM2/M2NE/#specifications
it says M2N-E is Ultra.
NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI is at http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM2/M2NSLI_Deluxe/#specifications

The Asus website will tell you what CPU's are compatible with your motherboard. You will likely just need a bios update if that.

Yea I see theres a very long list there and it also has AM3 socket processors on it but my motherboard only supports AM2 and AM2+. What does that mean?

Not sure. Im not an AMD guy. Hopefully someone with some better knowledge than me can explain why that is. BUt thats the MFG CPU compatability chart. So I suppose it should work. Pinout is the same I believe...

From what I've found out it would be safer to just go with the AM2 and since I don't currently have a huge budget for any new hardware I guess it can wait.
Thanks for all the help anyway!:attn::thup:
