I've been wanting to install a CPU exhaust duct for a while, but my chrome painted Delta 80 CFM wouldn't be cool if it was covered by hose, or whatever else you may use to build a duct. So I busted out the Dremel and some scrap Plexiglass and Went to work.

I have an Alpha 8045 so the fan exhausts off the CPU, It used to just exhaust in to my case, My case has horrid Ventilation so this was a problem. I made a duct that mounts on to my Fan, and directs the airflow out the back of my case. I sealed up all the edges with some clear packing tape. I have two small Blue lights mounted above the duct that gives it a cool glow.

Anyone else think it's a cool Duct?

Looks cool! Wish I had some spare plexiglass. Still tweakin and changing designs for my Glaciator 2's intake duct.

Put some streamers on that thing man.
Just like the ones we used to have on our bicycle handle bars as kids.

Maybe put a 80/90/120mm fan at the other end? :D

I thought about it, but my case is so small, It's hard to even add a fan to it!!! Oh well, was only a $15 case:D .

It seems to be working rather well. I used to take off the over and get blasted by hot air. Now if I take off the cover and stick my hand in, it feels like it's below room temp!

You should put a light in it.

is a duct neccesary? will i get better temps?

This mod hasn't really made much of an effect on my CPU temp, but my case temp has dropped significantly. Since the Majority of heat buildup in the case comes from the CPU, this eliminates the majority of the heat building up in the case. If your case has good ventilation, it is not that big of a deal.

did this way back with cardboard and tape.

worked just fine in a smaller box.

with the 26" towers i use now, it is not needed, got four intakes (3 80's & a 92), 3 direct exhaust (all 80's), dual P/S's, one with two 80's and one with a single 80. vid card fan, chipset fan, and ram fan round out the box.

add the Delta 80 screamer to da mix on the MC462, i have no problems with temps. present temps 20*c case, 24*c CPU.

gotta love air when used right.

all in a closed case, only way it will cool properly, the air flow.

bldegle2,

With all of that noise, how do you sleep at night.

uh,

i turn her off, it costs too much in electricity here in California.

and, i sleep in another room.

and, i am used to the sound.

crank up an MP3 with the 5.1 setup and you can't hear any fans
.

One quick thing, aren't u supposed to have the air coming onto the proceessor through the duct? It would make more sense to do that first then have an exhaust built around the heatsink if u really wanted it.

My heatsink(Alpha 8045) is designed to have the air exhauseted. Also, I mostly built the duct to keep the case cool. My case used to be an oven. By lowering the ambient case temp, it lowers the temp of everything in the system.

I am now able to keep my case at room temp using only a cheap-o 80mm intake fan and the exhaust from my PSU and CPU. This really keeps the dust down.
