if you click the link over to via or just head over there. there is a slide showing quad core via cpus, this is going to get interesting... as it wasnt long ago that via announced the X2 or a dual core nano, they will now be using two x2 on a single package for a quad core (ala LGA775 quad cores). this will make the lower power/micro box market more interesting. As going over the benches from Atom 230/330 vs Nano, Nano had the advantage. while it wasnt by much in some areas it was something to consider for netbooks/nettops.

The one thing i always thought was nice of VIA to do. was to make the future chips pin to pin the same and work with current chipsets they are selling to oems. this really does lead to lower cost to oems and to down the pipe to us but retailer's will jack up the price to be about the same the other offerings.

One thing i would like to see via do in the future is start to use a HTT/DMI/QPI buss system to the cpu. this way when they start to add more cores they already have in place the ability to scale up bw to the cpu from the chipset. though as it is the current setup may provide more then enough bandwidth for the cpu(s). the next logical step though is going with a IMC, IMO for further increasing cpu efficiency per clock as amd did and later intel.

The only player missing in this market segment that the Atom, Nano/Nano X2/Nano Quad, and AMD E-350 are competing in is Nvidia. the only problem from what is out there is that NV's closest chip to compete wont be able to run windows. if all the boxes came with a form of *nix then that would be a different matter. it would be nice to see and compare all these setups in *nix to see how they stack up.

Nice catch, interesting topic. Saw a lot of focus on this segment at CES, we may or may not like it, but it is going to continue getting more focus.
