I get the part where they say that they have limited bandwidth available to the SETI@home project and as a result, we have to "wait in line" for our turn to upload/download WUs. I know I've tried over and over on my dialup without success.

The part I don't get is why is the rest of the SETI@home site so fast? I can go to the home page, I can check my personal stats, I can check group stats, and I can even read the newsletters. All this without ever receiving a "no connection" message. What gives?

Just taking a wild guess here, but I think i might be right (famous last words)

Since the database machine being used by Seti@home to upload and download work units was the big bandwidth user, the campus IT folks probably placed the lower priority on that machine's IP address. Their web server, which handles all the HTML, uses a different IP, much less bandwidth, and probably wasn't deprioritized by the univeristy's admin.

Thats my guess too.

Their webpage are basically text with very little GUI, where WU uploading are 300K each or so. Also, what I don't understand is that, they have bandwidth problems and they add some certificates to our names. Save some bandwidth for at least some people to download their WUs!
