hi all, i am having some trouble with this networking stuff lol.
i have a dsl modem (isp gives me 2 ip's) that connects to the uplink port of my hub, which my 2 computers (running win98) are connected to. so this shares the internet connection just fine, but now i also want to share files between the 2 computers. so what can i do to achieve this ?
thanks :)
u should be able to now, r u sure u got the workgroups on both comps the same?

yes the workgroups are both set to "HOME"
but neither computer can see the other computer ?
I had a teacher once told me if you only have two computers networked to gether that you have to enable NetBui (I think i spelled that correct) and tcp/ip. before the two computers would see each other
Just an idea
I hope this works

Alright here is what u gotta do.
Go to each machine and do the same.
1. Go to control panel and network and make sure you have client for microsoft networks installed, file and printer sharing, TCP/IP. If any of these are missing then go to add and add em. Also you might have some extra crap in there if you have AOL or whatever.
2. Set the workgroups to home or whatever.
3. Go and right click on your hard drive in "My computer" and go to sharing and then enable sharing. ( you have to have something shared inorder to see the other computer)
Do the same for every machine.
Hope this helps, peace

Better hope you have a firewall when you do that. That will open your stuff to the entire world!! I remember whem I had mine setup like that for a day or two. When I would try to transfer files back and forth between computers, it would try transferring it over the internet. Let me tell ya. That takes forever when its a 700MB file!!

Also if ur gonna use netbios then i strongly suggest the firewall because port 135,139 is open and those are some badass ports
of course im not allowed to discuss what theyt do/will do, in here.
PM me if u wanna find out.
