hi guys currently i'm running a 1800xp amd with a koolance full tower watercooling setup which i might say is very nice but thinking of going for a p4.

it will be a northwood spec p4 proberbly the 1.6 but my dilema is which mobo to go for i have ddr ram so would like to stick to that or does rdram give a real big increase or not enough to warrant the extra cash.

1. which board is the best for overclocking and stability ?

2. which board allows pci fsb to be fixed at 33 or uses a high divder to get it close to spec?

3. which chipset is best sis645 or intel845

i think the choice is epox but which would you go for and if poss what speeds have you obtained with your setup.

EPOX EP-4BDA2+ RAID (Socket 478 motherboard) (intel845)

EPOX EP-4SDA+ RAID (Socket 478 motherboard) (sis645)

thanks in advance

If you are getting a 1.6a then I don't think you would wan't rdram as the 1.6a might hit 150fsb and I don't belive current rdram can clock that high.

I do think rdram on a i850 board overclocked to 133mhz with rdram capable of 133mhz would be faster than the 645 at 133fsb 166mhz memory.
Most people would pick the 1.8a chip for a target 133fsb thou.

If you haven't already looked in the epox intel motherboard section please do.

rdram will overclock similar to ddr on the i850... due to the 3 or 4 multiplier.

you can run at 133mhz * 3 = 800mhz ram and not be overclocking the 800mhz memory.

also considering that there are reports of the samsung rdram overclocking to 4X133=533mhz

At 3X177 = 533mhz or 177mhz fsb...

Also there are 166mhz rated DDR chips out there for sale.

Its actually kinda neat we have tons of options for running the P-4 at high fsb without overclocking the memory...
