Here is an alternative rating site. www.bizrate.com is usually known for its tracking of good sales, but they also issue ratings for businesses--and not just on-line ones. Several merchants pay bizrate.com to offer their customers surveys directly after the sale. Then, after rating the purchase process, bizrate.com will follow up after delivery to see if everything is satisfactory. And, if anything needs replacing and/or service, another follow-up survey will be offered to rate that process as well. Here's the link:

http://www.bizrate.com/marketplace/merchant/featured_merchants.xpml?cat_id=4&de_id=299

Want it easier? Just type in the name of the merchant in which you are interested into the search field. Scroll to the bottom of the results screen to get their rating. Click on the rating number to get ratings for each particular process.

Sorry, Bizrate just is not the same. I think techbargains.com has a place to put merchant comments. I used resellerratings a lot. That was one fine resource. Internet.com strikes again!!

Kid :( I think bizrate is an excellent ratings system. Vendors must pay them to let them do their comprehensive surveys. ONLY actual customers can rate a vendor, because customers are redirected directly to bizrate directly after confirming a purchase. Bizrate posts the results no matter what they may be and they rate lots of different things like shopping experience, on-time delivery, and service. I'd be more worried if a site wasn't on bizrate--but it either means that the vendor doesn't know about them or is too small (or stingy) to pay them their fee.

NOOOO! resellerratings was the shiznit! Oh,well...

As far as bizrate, it sounds good, except I don't like the fact that Vendors pay to get listed. It puts bizrate's interests between their customers (the vendors who pay them) and the people who check up on the vendors in conflict. AFAIK resellerratings was not paid by the vendors, a much more 'pure' setup IMO. Oh, well...

MODS: while the vendor section is great, maybe you could make a resellerratings-like sticky poll where people can rate vendors just like on resellerratings? Then the comments can go into normal threads like they do now...

Nope, won't go there.

Reseller Ratings is gone for a reason.

Problem with something like that is you don't even need to be a customer to give a Vendor a bad or good rating. Although it was a great giude, it never should have been used as the absolute truth.

Case in point, a few Months ago, someone trashed a Vendor on another forums site. The trashing was NOT even over service, just price. All of a sudden, this vendor had almost 20 bad ratings show up almost overnight about poor service.

Coincidence??? I think so....

Another problem with a site like that is if people ONLY purchased from Vendors with GOOD ratings on Reseller Ratings, how could a new Vendor even have a CHANCE to give good service?

The site was a wonderful idea, it was just being used wrong.

BIZ Rate is a very good idea also but with a HUGE problem. A small vendor cannot even afford to be part of the service. Put all of the small guys out of business, then the "Big Boys" will have a Monopoly, watch prices and service fall like a rock.

IMHO

IMHO I know that BizRate charges a fee for their service, but do you have any idea how much it really is?

I rated vendors there, and I *did* need to be a customer. They asked for invoice #, etc. You could only rate each once, as well. Sure, not perfect, but I thought it was at least informative.

No, you didn't NEED to be a customer. You could have typed in any invoice number and RR's would have accepted it as long as it wasn't a duplicate.

Well, sure, people could lie. People can always lie, there is nothing you can do about that.

Very easy to fake an invoice number and create multiple accounts using hotmail, yahoo,or msn.

Granted, I guess I am a little too trusting...

Also, I don't think that it would be too hard to set up a confirmation system whereby the vendors could be contacted to confirm the invoice numbers and thereby assure the veracity of the comments...
