View Full Version : Why am I Seeing "Publish" as an Option?

In the Rackmounting article I have the following instead of "Submit for Review" and I almost hit the "Publish" button when I was going to save. In other pending articles I get the "Submit for Review" button.

I believe that means it is already in for review (Status: "Pending Review"). When I was working on it, Publish was the only option. Obviously, I didn't do this, but I almost hit it as well.

Normally, pending articles don't have the "Publish" option, at least for me. Usually, the submit button remains there as the save button. I thought only Editors saw "Publish"...

I have no idea; your profile info doesn't appear to have changed.
That said, that particular article is already in 'pending review' per your screenshot. Chances are if you clicked publish it wouldn't let you (heh, though let's not find out). Since other articles aren't in pending, it gives you the option to submit for review. Just a guess.

Here's a ss from the BitFenix article that's in pending as well. This is what I usually see.

I hereby punt this to IMOG. Oh IMOG? :chair:
If it's any help MattNo5ss, I get the same options when viewing both of those articles.

So, it's probably not my account settings then. Something set for the article itself that gives anyone the ability to publish it (possibly)?

When I started my new article post today, I saw the same publish options as in the OP before I saved the draft. Once I saved it, the post was put in draft status and I now see the submit button. I don't know if I would have actually been able to publish that post before saving it or not.
Still have the publish options discrepancy in the Rackmount and BetFenix articles.

Bump...but not really since it's at the top. So, bump to the top of your "today's posts" search :D
I'm tempted to press publish on the rackmount article, just to see what it'll do. I don't want anyone p***ed off though...

If it's ready to pub for sure, go for it. Make sure you are logged out of the forum before hitting the button. Then, after publishing hit 'update' (it will appear where publish is now), which is required for the forum thread. Log back in and PM me when you're done and I'll fix the thread. Assuming it works of course.

I just added a few pics to the article, hoping to get some feedback from the more server inclined peeps first, then I'll give it a shot. We'll see if it actually works or if it's just being a tease...
You have me curious. Checking the homepage, and I'm not seeing the article. Did you get an error message or anything?

Nope, I was waiting for feedback first, I'll give it a try in a few mins. If anything needs changing an Editor can do that :D

It worked! However, I can't press "Update" because I can't see published posts in WP  (again)

Hahahahaha....well, that's interesting. I'll take care of that.
EDIT - Done.
For anyone else that sees this option - DON'T PUSH THE PUBLISH BUTTON! Heh. You can still move it to pending review, by clicking "edit" next to the current status. Use the drop-down menu to change it to 'Pending Review' if that's your goal, then save the article. Saving will put it where you assign it.

Thanks! Has anyone figured out why it was showing publish yet, or why I could also see publish in a new post before saving it?

Thanks for all your help getting it ready, I appreciate it.
DON'T PUSH THE PUBLISH BUTTON!
But...but...I want to push the button!! :p
All joking aside, good to know. Glad MattNo5ss didn't mind being the guinea pig. ;)

Yep, I don't mind :D I figured the Editors could just "un-publish" the article if needed, so it wouldn't be a huge deal, and worth it to see if this oddity actually allowed me to publish something without the permissions...
