So Im getting a SSD this friday, a Crucial M4 (probably 64g but I want the 128g) and Im questioning how I can transfer the data I want to save from my WD caviar I have now. I want to put the OS on the SSD, obviously, but I have quite a bit of music/dvd (all legitimate of course) that I want to keep on my WD but its got an OS installed, so how can I keep all my dvds/music/backups on my WD and boot up win 7 on my SSD...thanks in advance.

1. Install the OS on the SSD (not just as simple as that, there's a thing or two in the BIOS before you install/a couple tweaks in Windows right after you install. Lots of great guides on the OCZ forums.)

Quick and Easy Way to install
1. Unplug all drives except for the SSD
2. Go into the BIOS and set SATA mode to ACHI
3. Install Windows
4. Install all drivers.
5. Download the latest version of SSD Tweaker, run
6. Run WEI to disable defrag on the SSD

SSD Tweaker is the easy way, but if you do all the tweaks manually you can be sure nothing screwed up.

2. Shrink the partition on the Caviar Black as far as it will go.
3. Make a new partition with the unformatted space.
4. Copy over everything you need to the new partition.
5. Delete the partition with the old operating system and extend the new one to take up the entire drive.

Now you have your music/movies on the Storage drive and Windows on the SSD? Or do you need programs too?

You don't need to tweak much to get it to work right.

SSD's if in RAID or ACHI mode will install the necessarily drives for it to work without issues. As for Defrag, its automatically disabled during install because it does a performance test on the system there.

As for the drive dellio. You could shrink/expand the partitions or just do the simple method. Once your Win7 is up and running go back and plug in the WD drive, move what you need to a selected folder and hit DELETE on everything else. Defrag the drive and wahla.

On number 5...can u delete the partition right from windows? I mean the same place that u shrink/extend the new partition?
