I had my heart set on a i5 2500k with a GTX 560 ti, but now I'm debating on doing a AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE with a GTX 570. Which would be the better outcome for a gaming system?? I want to spend about $400 - $450(tops) after rebates on processor and video card. I know the i5 2500k is way more powerful, but if I can get a better gaming experience going the AMD way packaged with a better video card, I would rather do that I'm thinking.

I would be playing Diablo III, Skyrim, WoW, Starcraft II at 1920 x 1080.

So again:
AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE paired with GTX 570

or

i5 2500k paired with GTX 560 ti

I should also add that I will be running at LEAST 8GB 1600mhz CAS 8 and I will also be OC'ing either of the CPU's that I get.

Thanks! ;)

2500k and 560 ti would be my suggestion. at 1920x1080 you will still be noticing your cpu a lot and the 2500k overclocks better and is a far superior cpu to the 955be. the 560ti should be decent for your needs.

Thanks, yeah after I posted it I realized that it would probably be a horse a piece. Intel it is! :)

You aren't really comparing apples and oranges here. How is this bizzare choice being forced?

Go with FX-8120 over i5 2500k - It uses crazy power but overclocks like crazy for less money. You can still get the 560 ti

DO NOT listen to this advice ^^^^^^^

it would be foolish to get an FX series cpu over a 2500k. an 8150 only barely beats a 2500k. with a 2500k you are getting a tried and true gaming CPU. I own an 8150 and it is a power hog compared to my 2600k. so bang for your buck is going to be with intel.

Overclocks like crazy? Well, that's new! Not more than a 2500k anyway, and you need an integrated freezer in your heatsink unless you plan on ln2 gaming sessions...
Have you checked the average oc in forums and reviews? It's more like 4.5 than 4.8 on air.
