I've been trying to flash my the firmware on to my linkstation since I upgraded the HDD to a larger one. Last time I did this, it was quite the battle to get a machine to "see" the linkstation with the buffalo firmware flasher. I think I ended up having to use an XP machine to do this, unfortunately I no longer have one of those.

Cliffs:
: Linkstation is in EM mode since the new hdd is installed
: linkstation has an ip of 192.168.11.150
: i set my ip manually to 192.168.11.1 (or 192.168.11.x)
: I've Disabled UAC, firewall, virus scanner, etc......
: I've tried a x-over cable and through a switch
: the firm flasher can't see it on w7/vista
: advanced ip scanner sees it as a device with an IP of 192.168.11.150
: wtf am i doing wrong?
: i'm sure it's a firewall or some other setting but i dunno, nothing I try allows the firmware flasher to see the device.

Have you ran the firmware flasher in compatibility mode for XP?

Lot's of old proprietary tools aren't so hot on new OSes - you may need to get an XP install up or borrow an old laptop from someone to get it done.

I have not yet, but i'll try that as well.

Also, what model is your LinkStation?

I had no issues with any drive i've put in it so far including a 1tb, aside from this typical flashing hiccup. Now i'm trying to put in a 2tb and i'm wondering if it's just not going to work and maybe 1tb is the max?

Go here:

http://www.buffalotech.com/support/downloads/

Choose the model from the dropdown, and there is a CD Images section at the bottom that fixes LinkStation discovery problems. Follow the instructions there; hopefully that will help you out.

I have tried every piece of software from the buffalo site. I have tried every option I can find via google and other outlets to no avail.
