gday guys
after strugling with performance from my p2 450 i went out today and bought a cele 1.0a and an abit st6 raid motherboard..
i have a few questions to ask.
when it comes at the start with the cpu it says it is a Pentium III 1ghz (100 x 10.0)
is this an error?
also what temperature should this be running at with the standard heat sink?
thanks for all you help

As long as the BIOS detects the processor's settings correctly, I wouldn't worry about it being detected as a PIII. The Tualatin Celerons have the same instructions that the old CUmine PIII's did so that may be the reason for the confusion.
I'd say that at stock speeds with the stock HSF your temps shouldn't be any higher than 35C... probably closer to 30C as the Tualatins run cooler than CUmines did.

i downloaded the latest bios for my motherboard and it now comes up as celeron 1ghz
with the temperature, i downloaded hardware monitor and did a burn in with sandra. Max temp was 43.5C. At the moment it is at 40C. Outside temp is 27C at the moment aswell..
now when i installed the heatsink/fan it had a black square on the bottom of it. A i meant to take that off or leave it on?
Also in hardware monitor it has red boxes around the core and aux voltages.. Core Voltage is +1.47V and Aux Voltage +1.23V. Is there anything to worry about here?
thanks for your help
You probably need a bios update. I know on my Chaintech, it says Pentium 3 566 when stock is booted up, but in Windows it actually identifies it as Celeron...

That black thing is a cheapo heat pad. I'd take it off, clean off the adhesive real good, and reapply ASII or ASIII.
