Just thought I would install BOINC to run in the background on my laptop (and later the desktop) and so far these files are taking forever to download:

Most of the time it seems that the files aren't downloading at all... is it just their servers have little bandwidth?

Same here. Looks like they are having some troubles on the server end. About all we can do is wait.

They finally finished downloading and are now running.

Probably won't be able to contribute too much to the team, being a student and from the UK it is very expensive for me to leave them on 24/7

I am getting work for cpu only. Nothing for my gpus...

I had to install the lunatics optimiser before my GPUs got work, I am now getting 1 task per gpu core all the time (see http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=625171)

I've gotten 2 or 3 before on my new rig but very few WU are coming in despite the 10 days setting. I think the server just don't have many WU to share yet.
