I have asus rampage iii extreme mobo. i7 950 cpu. 6GB(3x2GB) corsair 2000hmz 8 9 8 24 RAM. For this RAM to be at full speed it is 1.65V(asus board makes it more like 1.66) - What would you recommend my QPI/DRAM Voltage to be for this to be stable?

More Info: even if i overclock nothing and try and make the ram work @ 2000 with locked in timings it will blue screen during stress test. When ram is not at full speed then stress test can go on for 6 hours before I get bored..

im guessing my QPI/DRAM voltage isn't high enough - ive tried 1.4v but not sure if safe to go higher?

never mind, i think i will just accept i cannot get it to 2000 unless i compromise something else... so i think i will keep it below 1900 and tighten the timings.

if it is rated at 2000 8 9 8 24 - what timings you think i could get at 1800-1900. I was thinking 8 8 8 20 ?

You will need 1.45-1.55V QPI/VTT for 2000+ on most X58 boards. From my experience 1.5V+ is needed on any ASUS boards ( I had/was testing 3 of them and my bro has now R3E ). If you have GTX3 / PSC Dominators GT then you can count on something like 8-9-8-24 1T 90-110 tRFC @ 1866-2050 1.58-1.65V ( depends from luck and IMC ). Point is that this platform has limited memory controller and most ASUS boards have problems with memory anyway so need a bit higher QPI/VTT only to see all memory, not saying about oc.
If you have Dominators GT/PSC IC then it's possible to make CL 6-8-6 @ 1600-1800, 6-9-6 @ 1800-2100, 7-10-7 @ 2100-2200 ... memory voltage about 1.65V, QPI/VTT can be higher than daily safe ;)
Something near 1.45V should be still safe for longer. If 1.45V QPI/VTT won't be enough then 1st try to set IOH to ~1.2V.
You can check AData 2000G/X58 memory tests that I have in sign ( there are also Dominators 2000C8 but on other chipset ). All are on almost the same IC and can make +/- the same on X58.

Gulftown makes it very easy to run ram at 2k+

But.... kind of waste getting one now :D

I was able to run my adatas at 2450 9-10-9-25 with only 1.68 on the mems, 1.425 on the qpi. Pretty loose timeings I know, but it still did it

I would just like to inform you that I have got my RAM running @ 2000mhz with the rated timings with 1.42QPI(in hardware monitor it doesn't go over 1.4)

I was getting annoyed with not being able to reach 200 x 23(4.6ghz) on my i7 950 so I updated to the most recent BIOS and what do you know? RAM ran just over 2000mhz at 1.65v and 1.42QPI First time.

Now is 1.42 QPI ok for 6 hour gaming sessions?

Pfft: got to start from scratch with my OC though since my saved profiles don't load into the new BIOS.
