WinXP Pro
AMD Athlon 1800+
512 DDR 2100
When I first installed WinXP Pro, I installed it on top
of Win98 and the boot time was fine. But, after time,
I started having alot of problems. So, I formatted the
drive and did a clean install of WinXP Pro. Since then,
everything is running fine, except that it takes almost
a minute to get past the WinXP Loading screen.
Is there any tricks out there to speed up the boot time?
Thanks

what kinda mobo do u have? On the epox mobo theres a feature that allow the mobo to bypass alot of files during bootup which really increases boot speeds :burn:
Try tweak-xp. It has options to speed up all aspects of XP.

dunno if this help ya any, but i can tell ya's that using norton speed disk will greatly slow down windows XP bootup and shutdown times .. its supposed to speed up programs, but i see no speed difference in any programs by using speed disk, but i do notice that as soon as i used that even just once, windows bootup an shutdown times were like +30 secs.. easy..
since xp's defrag doesnt have the abitlity to 'cue' drives or partitions, made a simple command line to make it do one after the other with it, and it will keep ya system booting reasonably, or atleast knock that possible out of ya boot times.. :) do this from command line..
for %f in (c: d: e: f: g: h: ) do start /wait defrag -f %f
note: the last bracket should be one space back, but its be a smily in here *smh*.. put in as many drives or partitions as you like, and it will do it.. cut back my bootup an shut down easily by 15-20 secs since i had been using speed disk...

check the dma settings for your hard drives. Ive read that xp will automatically kick it down a notch for every 5 times it has an error involving that piece of hardware. I believe the fix was to uninstall and reinstall the drivers for your ide controller. I could be wrong though.
