anyone you want
comes down to features and price, your choice's right now are 8500 64mb(retail box), 8500 64mb(oem), 8500LE 64&128mb(retail box)and 8500 64&128mb(oem). the 8500 128mb is not out yet. all good cards, the oem's are clocked a little slower then the retail box. price's at www.pricewatch.com have dropped for the retail box, so get retail over oem. check out the ati site for specs on the different cards. And I would not get the GeForce4 until ATI come's out with their new card w/ the R300 chipset, so yuo have something to compair it to.

I would not say spank at all, but if you have an extra $400 to spend on something that isn't even out yet, then go ahead. If you want similar performance NOW, buy the Radeon8500 retail for under $200 shipped.

Actually I just got word this morning on a fax from Visiontek that the Ti4600 and 4400's are shipping today. I will recieve my first batch before the week is up!

And for $279 on the 4400, yes it will in fact kick the 8500 around. There is no comparison between these 2 cards. You have to see them to appreciate just how good the NV25 chipset really is!

The 8500 is already known as the 2nd coming of the "Rage Fury". The drivers have been horrendous for many folks, and the card still has too many bugs to list. You can now get a regualr GF3 for the same money as the 8500 if budget is that big of a concern. And it is by far a better card.

the poster(Wildfire) asked nothing about NVIDIA, and the price on the plain GF3 is $185(oem), ATI 8500 is $159(retail box).

So stop cramming NVIDIA down everyone's throat...

So why would anybody be stupid and not spend the extra $35 for a product that has always worked as described?? I can suggest for somebody not to get another Rage Fury mishap If I want to. Its already a fact that there are more bad reviews than good ones on the 8500. And rightly so.

I think he was being as nice as he could be to the person he was responding to, if you look at alot of post by this person, no matter what the subject, they are trying to force feed the NVidia line of cards to everyone, even going as far as calling people "stupid" and other names for buying an ATI product, thats is what we don't need here and it's nice to say that in a recent thread, this 'person" was given an extended 'vacation" from the forums because of their "opinions" toward other people.

You can only be so nice to someone who feels the need to constantly disrespect a person and the choices they make.

and if all those reviews were made with the newest drivers (as the Ti4600 reviews are), then they would be mostly good reviews....and theres a big difference between 160$ and 300$....

The R8500 is a great board. If you stick to ATi released drivers, you'll find that they are quite good. 99% of the complaining I see is the result of people using unsupported, LEAKED, drivers that ATi did not release or write. Lesser educated nVidia proponents then tell everyone how bad the cards are.

Anyway, stick to the ATi produced RETAIL boards.

They should apparently be coming out soon. That means a nice price drop for the current boards.

I would just go with an origonal ATi product. You can find one here (http://mate.pricewatch.com/scripts/b.asp?2926600)

The retail 8500s are so cheap right now, you can't pass it up. The 8500 vs. GF issue is a tough debate right now, so just know that both sides are a little inflamed right now. Haha...I keep seeing this everywhere...I think it's time to get past the debate and get on to overclocking!

If you are getting an ATI, get the Radeon 8500 Retail Boxed. For under $160, it can't be beat by any other ATI product -for gaming, that is.

Thanks for all the help guys. Yeah cost is a pretty big issue seein as I am a student. I am planning to buy some time between now and the end of March, depending upon releases. I actually own a Geforce 2 MX at the moment 215 x 215 but I really need to up grade. I like the look of the Gigabyte Radeon with the O/Cing prog, but as someone said, we have been waiting for it for ages.

I'm in the UK and so am debating whether to get a card from the US, you say that the retail is only $159 over there? it's about £220 over here, closer to $300 I think. How about the GeForce 4 4200? I kinda want the best performance for the money.

Anyway can someone reccomend me a good place to order a card from? either in the States or the UK but cheap, please?

Thanks again

Check pricewatch (http://www.pricewatch.com)

All the dealers I have delt with are great, have not had any problems my self. But the International Shipping would be a pain. I would be glad to order it for you and ship it out if you paypal me the $$.
