So the more I look at HWBot results and benchmark results it seems like if you get a card that clocks pretty well (1200 core range) that it can compete pretty well with a 6970 crossfire setup. Right now I am getting about 2300 score for DX11 in Unigine and it seems like with the proper clocks a 7970 can perform the same, however, whats the real world performance like? There are few reviews that show truly solid overclocking results and how that applies to games and such. Just a thought, wanted some input. I will be picking up one of these cards either way this week to start aging out my 6970 crossfire setup, hopefully to make my eyefinity performance a bit better.

i think the benchmarks are right on. just youtube gameplay videos n such. i dont think you even have to over clock them to get "Awesome" performance. i think out of the box they are beast.

So I just got the card in last night, reinstalled Windows and such. Performance is slightly better than my overclocked pair of 6970s. Average framerate in BF3 is pretty much the same but minimum framerate is definitely better, all of this is in eyefinity (5760x1080). Lowest I've seen is 35fps and it averages around mid to high 40s, this is on all ultra settings, with HBAO, only thing turned off is AA. Card currently clocked at 1225/1650 at 1225mv max temp is 61C. Going to push it further once I get some more stability testing done. This thing is awesome for a single card though, things are buttery smooth. Hoping to buy a second as well sometime this month.

Have you tried overclocking it yet? You can get quite a boost in actual performance over the already excellent stock.

Yep it is overclocked, numbers posted above are with the card at 1225 core 1650 mem clock. For some reason I haven't been able to get my memory clocks nearly as high as others. I don't have the ability to raise voltage on the memory though, unless someone knows something I don't. It's a HIS card FWIW.

you have more core clock than I do on water and your memory clock is nothing to sneeze at.

Sorry Earthdog, I should've been a little more specific. I was looking for numbers with a significant overclock as opposed to the simple tweak you can do in CC and a thorough eyefinity review with those settings. However, I did buy one card and just ordered another one this evening next day, they are really amazing. I do appreciate all of the input on this thread :)

Sounds like you'll find out soon enough. It is going to run everything just fine even with eyefinity ultra settings.

www.hardocp.com has done reviews with both overclocked cards and eyefinity.

This picture from one of the reviews is showing performance of a single 7970 at stock speeds with eyefinity. Scaling for crossfire is really good so expect 75% more or so.. scaling with overclocking is really good too. so overclocked crossfire may get you near double this:
