I've been looking and looking for a nice future project case, but aside from emailing manufacturers, there's no way to know if that case has a removable top (to make painting easier).

So my request for all your removable-topped case owners is to please list your case here. If your case doesn't have a removable top, I don't need to know. =)

From the cases listed here, I'll make my decision on which one to buy.

Thanks guys!

I have the swiftech FS020 case. It was designed to be used with their watercooling kits.

I just looked on In-win's site, and all their full towers have a removable top.
So do all their mid-towers too.

I have a Cheiftek case...normally the top is NOT removable...it has 6 rivets in it...but you acn do what I did, which is drill out the rivets with a 1/8th drill bit, and then secure it with 10x1/2" screws...takes 2 minutes :D

The Inwin's don't all have removable top's. My brother had to drill out the rivets holding the top to his case out, and replace them with screws. All Aopen full-towers however have removeable tops, except for the H600.

Hey CrystalMethod,
On their site they're showing screws on the back edge of the top, and a seperate, slide in top cover in the mechanical drawings. That's how mine comes off. I looked up the site to check what they look like now, mines almost 2 years old.

I did see a computer show vendor selling ones that were different than mine. They had a two piece cover instead of three, and even the inside metal was a dull silver color. Mine looks almost like chrome. Their boxes weren't the usual white with the big red logo on 'em either.

I am wrong about all the mids, only the new 4 cd bay mid has a removable top...the 3 bay ones are a one piece.

Maybe they just need a site update.:p

Since I've modded the side panel of my Aopen HX08 for easy removal, it rocks. It also has a removeable top.

I've got an Addtronics 7896 that has a removable top. I love the case... not quite as fancy as some others, but it gets the job done.

The Supercase I had for my last one and the Inwin A900 I have now both have removable tops.

You can get the A900 at www.micropro.com for about $80. It's somewhat heavy, but I like the features in it, like the slide-out mobo tray.

Thanks so far guys, but I still need more! Chenbro makes some DAMN sexy cases (Such as the Junior series), and I'd love to go with them. Anyone have a Chenbro with a removable top?

All of the Aopen full towers have removable tops, due to the fact that the chassis is same. Only difference between the models (H600 being the exception to the exception), is the front plate (not the bezel), where you may or may not be able to put a floppy drive mid way in the case. The side panels and tops are exactly the same and interchangable. The newer models include spots for 2 X 60mm fans on the MB trays, unfortunately, I got my HT-08 a month before they came out, and have to mod it to put them in...

I just snagged a Chenbro full tower off eBay. It's top is removable. I guess it was designed more as a server case, not a user-friendly case - the top actually MUST be removed to take either side off. And there's a little tab at the rear of the case that slides through the top so you can physically lock the top on.

It just got here today, so I'm still investigating and planning (mods :D ) but it looks pretty nice. Only two gripes so far:

(1) it's quite a chore to get the sides off
(2) while the rear of the box appears to have been drilled for your choice of 2 80 mm, or one 92 mm, or one 120 mm fan ... the 120 holes are too low. The fan would extend 10 mm into the PSU! :( Not a big deal - I'm planning to cut out a hole for the 120 anyway ... it'll just be placed a bit higher. :D

It's got 1997 dates stamped on the inside, so I guess it's a few model years old. I can send you a few pics if you'd like to see more. I'd imbed them here but ... alas, I have no web space.

Antec KS series is removeable. Believe my SX1000 series is riveted though.

Define "readily available". There are several more just like mine out there on eBay. Don't turn your nose up at it just 'cause it's at a virtual garage sale. :o

Reading these posts I remembered my old Pack-Hell Platinum, and the top of the case WAS the door and it was a huge horseshoe shaped thing that exposed both sides when removed!!

LOL that wasn't the only "hell" part but those were the days!!

The MAXTOP CSX-147 series. Not a big problem but you have to remove side walls, front cover and about 24 screws. Available at newegg.com for less than $50.00 USD.

... uh ... I withdraw my gripe about getting the sides off my box. :D Two screws to remove the top, two screws per side panel. The front cover snaps on and off once both sides are removed.

Concerning the Chenbro Case

I got the same case, am very pleased with it. the problem with removing the sides has been solved by just cutting out the top a little at the edges. Excellent durability and excellent to mod because it has no holes for air to sneak in and ruin ur planned paths.

PC Power&Cooling's Personal Mid-Tower has a removable top. This case is very strong, yet not fancy. Only ~$40, but the shipping is a bit steep. www.pcpowercooling.com .

Hmm I dont know the brand but it cost me $35 and came with a power supply. I got it from a local computer called sky-tech. The website is www.sky-pro.net. The price guide on the site calls my case a "mid twr 9408." It came with a 250W ATX.
