View Full Version : Help! Case Worries
Recently i have heard from a "computer expert" that if you have a compaq computer and you switch cases (the compaq case is UGLY), it can cause problems. Is there any truth to this? I really want to get rid of the compaq case, but my parents wont let me(aarrggh, control freaks). Anyways, please help!
what did he say there would be a problem with? There should be nothing wrong if you switch out the cases.
I dont know. It was my computer illetreate parent who talked to him. all she said he said was that it could cause problems. it sounds really wierd to me

The first hurdle and maybe the biggest is the fact that alot of companies like Compac don't use motherboards that conform to any industry standard(eg. AT or ATX). Their boards are manufactured to conform to their case design and just may not be adaptable to an after market case. I know for a fact that my brother-in-law has a Compac which uses riser cards and such and I could not find a case to switch it over to. I you have found a case that gets over that hurdle good luck to you.

i can see it being a pain in the ... but its possible ive done it with 2 compaqs (of corse they wern't mine :) )
im pressy sure that it is just your typical ATX Mobo. it IS a tower case so i dont have to deal with riser cards or anything. i have opened it and upgraded it, so i know it quite well.
See the big problem here is that someone in your family was stupid enough to buy a compaq computer. The best way to solve this problem, throw it out because its useless.

I had a problem similar to the compaq possibly. The PSU from an old Gateway was extra dumb. It wasnt AT or ATX it was a made up size. But the case was ATX. They always cut corners on you so check everything before you switch cases or atleast be prepared to do some custom rigging.

If I had a compaq, I'd also try to hide it inside of new case. Just make sure all the riser holes and slots line up, then you should be able to switch.
