I have a windows 2000 box connected to the internet and I'm trying to set up my linux box to network with the windows box and connect through it to the internet through the 2k box. the 2k box connects to the internet through a 56k hardware modem. I'm using two 3com nic's and a crossover cable between the two pcs.

Besides hooking up proxy software I think the windows 2k box is ready to go. I could be wrong though.

I have mandrake 8.0 on the linux box and I need some help with setting up networking.

I chose to use 10.0.0.1 and 10.0.0.2 for my two ip's and use 255.255.255.0 for the netmask.

Ok I still havent figured it out but i set up analog X's proxy on the 2k machine.

I need some help on the linux side. first off I just want the two machines to see each other :)

if you need more details just ask. thanks.

oh and one other thing the analog X proxy icon is green so I know somethings working.

can you ping both machines?

why dont you just use the internet connection sharing in windows?

make sure that the windows box ip is setup as the default gateway in linux... type... route add deafult gw x.x.x.x
if it is not already set up as the default gateway...

of course x.x.x.x is replaced with your windoes box IP

nope I cant ping the machines.

when setiing up the connection in linux what do i type for host name. do i put in 10.0.0.1 or what? sorry i'm a newbie with linux.

i keep getting a cannot connect to host localhost error or could not connect to host proxy 10.0.0.1, port 6588 in mandrake.
