Hi Everyone, this is my first post here, look forward to seeing me around a bunch, ummm... i never liked public speaking ;) ... soo.. anyway, something interesting happened to me, my friend left his computer over @ my house a month or two ago. he has a 1ghz tbird @ (1.13ghz) , and i had a 750 duron (@1.08ghz). i took my cpu out, and put his in, ran tests, ran seti, ect. put it back in his, ran some seti units, i come home one day and get compulsive, i take his cpu and put it in my comp, *CRACK*. Awww man, crushed core, it would not post or even give me a beep code (on either of the 2 systems) :(
soo a few days ago, i bought a duron 950 from a local place (i am too impatient to wait for something to ship) and ive been running it for a while, got it to 1225mhz. so the guy asks for his comp back.... ummm .... ya... so i told him about the cracked core.
he took it pretty well. i offered to give him my duron 750 free for messing his 1ghz up. BUT here's the kicker, i just tried that cpu, ad IT WORKS! (someone explain that one) most of the corner of it is off, but it works, after not posting on 3 different occasions...
now, he gets my 750, he already took his computer back and i thought i was left with a 1ghz keychain...
i run seti as much as possible, and am determined to have the best times possible, which would be a better crunching cpu?
the duron 950 @ 1225 or the 1ghz tbird @ 1.13?
(the tbird wont do much more if any)
Thx.
(sorry for such a long post)

WELCOME TO THE FORUM

The T-bird and Duron will have similar performance but the T-bird is a bit better cruncher due to more L2 cache even with a lower clock speed. I'm assuming that both are SDRAM systems

This is the site for SetiSpy:

http://pages.tca.net/roelof/setispy/default.htm#download

Down towards the lower part of the page, there is a WU time calculator. You can select your CPU, and FSB speed.
It will then give you an estimated time for the WU to finish.

Oh, and Welcome! :)

actually, both are ddr, (DFI AK-76-sn)
for some reason i have serious trouble running a 133fsb on my motherboard, i can run some reallyhigh fsb's under 133 tho
(125-130) which is 80's on agp and 40's on the pci.
and its not my ram, cause i have some atlas precision ddr266.

Welcome to the forums.

Do you have the dip switch cpu ratio select set with 1-2 on (for 133fsb support) or 2-3 (for 100fsb support)? If it is set 2-3 then change it to 1-2 on and you will get a pleasant suprize:cool:
