Hi,

yesterday I got my 1,6A Northwood. Before i removed my old
1,7 Ghz P4 I flashed to Mr Naturals 7D Bios.
All went well and so I tried to overclock the new cpu.
I raised the FSB to 133Mhz and the voltage to 1,6V.

After Xp had started, I watched at the hardwaremonitor, who was beeping all the time, because I passed the lower limit
(1,4V) of the vcore.
So I restarted my computer and raised the vcore to 1,7V, but
with the same result, I didn't get more than 1,40V (Bios) after the
restart.
At first I thought it might be a problem with Mr Naturals Bios and
so I flashed back to the Abit Beta Bios 7c01, but there was no
difference in the vcore.

Can you give me some advice ? What about your voltages ?
Is the measuring correct ?

I hope you can help me

greetings from germany

PS: Sorry for my poor english. I have not used it for a while.

Well I've read thousands of posts about this mobo (which I have, of course) and have never heard about this problem. I am afraid you have a defective motherboard that needs to be replaced.

I'm going to give you some suggestions, but, just to qualify them, I'm just guessing here. With your FSB set to 100, check your vcore with both Hardware Monitor and Motherboard Monitor and see if they are giving you the same reading. If they are, see what happens to your vcore when you bump your FSB up incrementally, like in steps of 5. In your original post it sounded like you went straight from a FSB setting of 100 to a setting of 133. If so, everything I've seen around here has people suggesting you slowly work your OC up a little at a time and torture test along the way. It gives your components a chance to burn-in and adjust to the new settings.

Let me know.

Peace,
Eggroll :)

P.S. What are your temps at stock? What were they at FSB 133?

Sorry, I forgot the temperatures.

FSB 100 :

idle : 28°C
Full Load: 34°C

FSB 133 :

Idle : 30°C
Full Load: 38°C

The hardware monitor and motherboard monitor show the same
values for Vcore.

holy crap. 38 C full load????

How do you get such low numbers? What kind of cooling do you have?

My hardware doctor always tells me 42 C idle, and ~50 C full load when i clock it down to stock speed. I can never get the cpu below 40 C, even at stock speed and a big azz fan blowing at it.

It seems as if your board is defective or you have a POS/defective PSU. If all of your other voltages are low then i'm thinking maybe its your PSU? If its just the Vcore then I would RMA the Abit board and get a new one.

Hi,

during the last 24h I raised the FSB incrementelly to 133Mhz.
When I reached the 133Mhz Fsb I tested the cpu 12h with prime95 and 3DMark2001Se.
It seems to be stable.

@Amd_builder
Okay, I have already changed my PSU. I took the Enermax (350W)
from my AMD-Computer and connect it to my mobo.
But there is no difference. The voltage is still too low (at the moment only 1,30V), but stable.
I think I will try the wire trick. Otherwise I will RMA the board.

@link26
I have a modified swiftech mcx478 with 120mm fan and another
4 fans in the case.
But I think the most important aspect is that my case is open and that the voltages are low.
I don't know where you come from, but in germany it is still cold.
There are less than 15°C outside, and in my room are only 16°C.

I think the cpu temperature will raise during the (short) summertime.

I think there is nothing wrong with yur mobo my mobo is at 1.34 when I set it to 1.5 in bios. Right now I have it set at 1.65 and it reads 1.50. I am at 150fsb 2.4g and rock stable.

Hi,

:D :D

@Eggroll

The vcore was stable. I have just finished the wire trick ( it took a long time).
Now my default setting for vcore is 1,85V.

I didn't get the 1,85V but the vcore raised from 1,3V to 1,7V.

Yeahhhhhh!!!!!

I still don't know why I can't raise the voltage via bios, but who cares. I think 1,7V is enough to raise the Fsb a little bit higher.

Thx to all of you!

1.6a's will do 140 fsb with default voltage.:D

Hi,

I was forced to raise the voltage a little bit to reach the 140Mhz Fsb, otherwise Prime95 will stop after ~30mins.
