Heylo ppl,

I flashed my ASUS E612 DVDROM drive to a newer version (downloaded from the ASUS website) and now my drive runs as a CDROM drive only!!!!

shucks!..please help...the drive works perfectly as a CDROM drive..is detected as a ASUS DVD E612 drive too...but simply refuses to accept DVDs...

if anyone has anyone hint, idea, suggestion or anything whatsoever to get my DVDROM drive working...please..please let me know..

Thanks...

Flash back to the old BIOS, that would be what I would try. You did save a copy right?

Hi,

ummm...well I did not save the old BIOS...the version was 1.05...
I am now running at 1.4...

could I get the old one somehow?

Thanks!

This page (http://perso.club-internet.fr/farzeno/firmware/dvd/dvdfi.htm) has some BIOS images for the Asus (as early as 1.2, but no 1.05). If nothing else, it'll give you something to do.
Happy flashing (http://www.chimneyworks.org/images/flashing.jpg)!!

You might want to contact tech support and see if they can help?

Hehe. What were you expecting?

hatZim, sorry that those BIOS images didn't work for you. I agree that it's time for tech support. It's very strange that none of the recent BIOS images work. Are you sure it's a good DVD you're testing the drive with?

You could also try some of those "patched" regionfree BIOSes.

Popped? Do you mean that it broke? Can you get tech support in India?

Also, I just noticed that you're from India. Could you post a picture of the city you live in (ie going shopping, walking around, pics of the street where you live, whatever)? I'd looove to see what it's like there.
Don't feel bad if you can't post anything.

Last thing: I just found another thread in another forum (http://198.95.255.5/NonCGI/Forum2/HTML/000035.html) that says that you can only change the region settings 5 times before it locks permanently. Could that be the problem?

I must be slipping. I forgot to give you your
Welcome to the forums!!!

I feel better now.

Parkan,

Where could I find one of those patched BIOSes?
And what if i flashed another BIOS onto this one? Like flashing the E616 BIOS onto the E612?...wots the loss newayz..the drive isn't workin too hard!:D

Thanks

IdeaMagnate,

Thanks! Well I've been hanging around (just reading) in this forum since ages..and its the BEST! The support, warmth and rather friendly ambience is unbeatable.

Now that I've officially declared myself a 'flashy pooper'...hehehhe...i'd have second thoughts about flashing anything on my system.

Yes! you have tech. support in India...and if my drive was under warranty i'd probably get a replacement. But you are suggesting technical support..which means giving me a 1.05 BIOS or flashing a new working one...well i don't think that is possible. I'd have to do those things myself.

About posting images of my city...Mumbai!...well i'd love to do it...but for dat i'd have to create an account on imagestation or some place...mebbe i'll do dat..:)

I've got two more region free settings to go before it gets locked...

Thanks for all the help guyz....

Just checked with all the possible combinations...primary slave...secondary master...secondary slave...then checked it on an Ultra ATA 100 card too...no go...the drive just works like any other CDROM...it really looks like a firmware problem now..if only i could get the 1.05 version...Please if anyone is using a E612 with 1.05 firmware version, could you save it and give it to me??
