if IBM has known about the problems with the 120gxp's (and 60gxp's and the 70gxp's) for 6 months then dont you think they would have done somethingf about it by now?

yes. But that's why there's more than 1 HD manufacturer. If you're not satisfied with IBM, you can get a good performing drive from Maxtor, WD, or Seagate, too. God, I love competition! :D

I think they have done at least some work as I haven't heard of too many 120 GXPs failing . But all is probably not well as they still saw fit to put that 333 hrs per month limit on it as well as advise that they shouldn't be used for mission critical stuff ( I guess they think normal ppls data and mp3s aren't important )

I think the 120 GXP failure rate may be near that of the other manufacturers' drives . But due to recent history every failure will get maximum attention , coverage and flame posts .

For now I'd still stay away from them .

I don't think you can get gxp 75s anymore. When i rmaed my 3 75s they sent me 120s as replacements.

The 120 is azzkicking fast. We'll see about the relability...

The 75s only started dying after about 1 year in the market.

If the 120s are solid...they have to be one of the top ide drives out there.
