Would i be better off with a 40gb 7200 for just files and movie clips mp3s (on raid-0) or a 60gb 5400.

i don't understand the question, could you be a little more specific

anyway, remeber if you put the drive in raid with your current drive you will have to erase all your data and put it back on in a stripe.

It may not be worth the effort just for more space, but there may be other factors, if you could explain more

i hope this helps

well you other post helped me out but all am trying to find out is

2x 40 raid
or
1x 40 1x 60 (rpm for files) and if 7200/5400 would matter for files.

OK, heres my answer- if you just want more space there is no need for all the work and extra risks involved for raid, so id go with option #2. But i think if you want MP3s and movies on the other disk go 7200, because you have to stream that data (or is that amount of data not enough to make RPM matter?- somebody?)

Anyway, if you don't have an insane amount of data to store, i'd get another 40 in the same model as your other one, so if you decide at a later date to raid, that is an option. And, you will have the extra performance of 7200 in the second disk. If you need raw space, and just want to store data, then maybe that 60 is the way to go

sorry for the indefinite answer, thats how i see your situation
