View Full Version : ok major hd problem now!

ok well i had this problem that i couldnt format
the error i got was the following (in dos
(formatting etc.)

Formatting 3,051.53
Trying to recover allocation unit 724,858

and then a lonnnng beep comes that wont end til i turn off the comp....
whats the problem here? :| im pooped. it worked fine and it happened, then i just disced hd from comp and plugged cable back in and it went to win98. now i tried fdisk and deleted partition and remade one and it wont work nemore. in dos it now tells me to abort retry or fail when i try ot access c drive.
sum1 help plz!!

Have you tried formatting the C: from a floppy boot disk. That should get the C: to recognize.

yea i just tried that. it gave me same error at like 90 something % .. with the long beep too of course

if your system is overclocked, put it back to stock. A high FSB sometimes doesn't react well with hardrives. Try changing which IDE channel it is on, or even set it to slave instead of Master( if you have an extra drive for master) just so you can format it. Or it could be overheating, so maybe put a desk fan next to it or something.

I really doubt any of those will work though. The drive may just be busted. But atleast you can try all possible roads before you spend money.

ugh, i think its busted.

its not oced.
ide channel? ok ill try that tomoro, time to go sleep now.
ill have my hopes on that, if not, then its pooped, cause its been quite loud for a while now
