so i was strolling through CompUSA today and i saw this thing that converts a ATA/100 hard drive among others into Firewire! How well does this work? and how much of a performance increase would i see with it?

Same thing is availabe for USB althought the bandwidth for that is severely limited when compared to FireWire.

As far as performance increase goes, none. If anything it will drop the performance depending on whether or not it needs CPU power to help complete the transfers. You will still be limited to actual hard drive I/O.

well, i bought it anyway (mostly cause i wanted the room). now i have a even bigger problem, how do i get the computer to recognise the darn thing on startup, as long as the hdd isnt plugged directly into the motherboard it wont start!
