I am building a PIII 800 that I got from a friend.

I bought a 40X burner and a WD1200JB drive
it is a CUV4X-E by asus.
Some one just told me that my VIA chipset will not be able to keep up with the burner and I will only be able to burn at about 24X

I wonder what others think. I got a good burner and hard drive because I will change out the mother board, proc and mem in the near future and I figure that a 40X burner and that hard drive should last about 18 months before they are too slow.

anyway, what do you think about the VIA chipset keeping up with the data transfer?

Its the first I have heard of this.. however considering that hard drives currently run a lot higher transfer rates than that currently capable by any CD-ROM or CD-RW. I would assume that you have been mis-informed as the Via chipset appears to cope with a hard disks rather well.

does everyone here use the PCI bug patch for the VIA chipset?
